However, I couldn't find sub domains in it, so here is that for him; a sub domain is a site that shares the main domains name. ie: http://joe.mysite.com is a sub domain, and mysite.com is the main domain. Joe, built his site, and didn't need or want to buy his own domain name, so he is able to make a sub domain that has no internic registration fee to deal with. A sub domain can have all the same features of the domain type sites, or be limited, depending on how they are set up. Most hosts specify what options are available as a sub domain option if they make them differently. Maybe even a machine alias. Subdomains are explained here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25222 debris 04-04-2002, 10:41 PM And just as a trivia bit for you, subdomains are also referred to as 'third level domains' sometimes. ;) |
