Now that almost every .com domain that makes any sense is taken. Do you think that .biz domains are gonna be worth something if you get a good 1 or 2 word one?

Do you think that .biz domains are gonna be worth something if you get a good 1 or 2 word one? Lats 04-04-2002, 05:52 AM As you're asking for candid opinions - NO. Same as the info, tv, ws etc etc. Lats... LinuXpert 04-04-2002, 05:59 AM I must say that a .com is hundred times more professional than a .biz. I rather choose a .ws than a .biz, dot biz looks awful to me. ToastyX 04-04-2002, 11:25 AM Technically, all domain extensions are equal. In reality, .com is what people will remember and has the most value. thewitt 04-04-2002, 11:44 AM When you talk about the "worth" of a domain name, you are assuming that the domain name itself is interesting and that it drived traffic to the site - or is interesting to domain speculators. I personally don't type domain names into my navigation bar in order to go to a website. I use hyperlinks and make them favorites if I really like the site. In looking at the sites I visit every week, many of them have names that I would never remember or associate with the site in the first place. I know that the domain speculators don't like to hear this, but I don't put any more value on an ugly name than a cute name for 99% of the web. Sorry. -t Abu Mami 04-04-2002, 12:52 PM Personally, I don't like .biz, it sounds slimy. For a business, I obviously prefer .com or .net if available. If not, I guess I would go with .ws. I think that I would even prefer .cc over .biz. Vex 04-04-2002, 12:59 PM I don't like .biz and I will never... it just doesn't seem... I don't know how to put it  JayC 04-04-2002, 10:40 PM I don't like .biz and I will never... it just doesn't seem... I don't know how to put it I feel the same way; I've always thought that "biz" is a bad choice for a name that is meant to imply professionalism. Maybe if you're in "show biz" or "the music biz," but in the real suit-and-tie world of business few people use the term "biz" seriously.I personally don't type domain names into my navigation bar in order to go to a website. I use hyperlinks and make them favorites if I really like the site. Well of course that can't always be the case. Domain names are printed on business cards, billboards, advertisements, letterheads... if you're marketing a business you want people to type your domain name into the browser. And, in marketing and brand-buiding certain domain names and even certain TLDs have more cachet than others. There may be no logical reason for it, but it's a fact of life. Incognito 04-04-2002, 10:44 PM However, thats not to say that I still wouldn't grab a very catchy or short one if available for the right business. For instance, if you were trying to get people to purchase a travel business opportunity, travel.biz wouldn't be a bad name. Acroplex 04-05-2002, 02:18 AM BIZ is fine. But beware of a Verisign scam that sells .BZ (Belize) domains like, tourist.bz, sales.bz etc for thousands of dollars on ebay! Since you mentioned short BIZ names, I have 606.biz and 767.biz, anyone? :D |
