View Full Version : Moving from Aletia
tensixteen64 04-03-2002, 06:57 PM Hi, yup I'm a newbie. :)
Moving from Aletia, ok, y'all please tell me how PHP Webhosting (http://phpwebhosting.com) is doing now. I went and searched, found old threads, but nothing recent. Looks like they had some problems in the past?
I haven't found any hosts offering what Aletia has, yet. But I'm moving for a few reasons. Namely they suspended my whole domain, no emails as to why or that they were suspending it, just poof last night. :bawling: Luckily I'm a smart girlie and I had just backed-up everything in March. I can access still on FTP so I got all recent files on my h/d. I just get frustrated with no customer support, communication and tons of down time.
So, I will be moving our main domain for a trial period before moving the other 3.
Any suggestions besides PHP?
Thanks,
Sara
Zorbs 04-03-2002, 07:05 PM I've heard good things about PHP, and I would have moved to them from Aletia, except that their packages didn't offer all the stuff I needed.

tensixteen64 04-03-2002, 07:26 PM No, Ras, I was on Cheetah.
:) Sara
Ah ok. Reason I asked was because of Ron's posts about suspended a few accounts yestarday on Puma for flat file forums.
Well anyhow, not surprising they didn't contact you since customer service has been leaving a lot to be desired recently. I am now moving my sites to JaguarPC (http://www.jaguarpc.net). I can't make a judgement on them yet however, but I can say that they have been very quick to set me up so far and I have no problems yet. I haven't seen much bad posts about them here either.
Good luck :)
blogomania 04-03-2002, 07:38 PM Hi Sara!!!
As you may have noticed, all of my sites are down and have been for 24 hours. VeoWeb is nowhere to be found, and we have no clue what's up with the situation.
I set up an account last night with Hosting Matters (http://www.hostingmatters.com) and I have to say that I have NEVER seen support like this. I am amazed. SPEECHLESS. Annette just e-mailed me a few minutes ago "to check and see if I needed any more help getting sites moved." I love Annette. I love Hosting Matters.
If you want to check them out Sara, write me and I can hook you up, since I am a reseller there now instead of VeoWeb.
And to anyone who is looking, Hosting Matters gets a HUGE two-thumbs up from me. Just look at their forums to see the quality of support they give.

Teehee! Yeah, but it's sincere instead of infomercial fake! Plus I am delirious from only 2 hours of sleep and moving all of these client sites...

tensixteen64 04-03-2002, 08:01 PM Christine! I was wondering where y'all went!!
I'm looking at www.insiderhosting.com right now. :)
Sara
tensixteen64 04-03-2002, 08:03 PM What plan did you go with Christine?
tensixteen64 04-04-2002, 10:53 AM I moved the one domain to www.insiderhosting.com for now. Trying them out, I may move the others to them, later on this year.
It was nice to be able to chat to someone on Q before I signed up. Steve and I had to have talked for nearly an hour and he answered each question. And if he didn't know, he looked for the answer for me.
I signed off of my Q last night after asking him questions. I recieved an email this morning with the questions and answers in it! How's that for customer support!
Their FTP access is wonderful, I couldn't tell you how fast the files were uploading as the numbers were moving too fast or were gone by the time I looked.
Ahhhhhhhh home.
:) Yay!

peachtreewebworks 04-04-2002, 11:12 AM Hi Sara... just thought I'd throw this out there for everyone else's file: we are not related!!! At least as far as I know! ;)
Maybe you can be my groupie :pimp:

Hm, don't know about groupie...

bully28 04-05-2002, 04:20 PM i just closed my account with aletia a couple of weeks ago and dealt with moving my sites away from them. i was on stingray, and it's been a nightmare trying to get aletia to respond to emails.
i still have two clients over there and i'm going to move them to join my hosted sites at alwayswebhosting.com. the fact that i can talk to the webhost ON THE PHONE kills me. hell, i could not even get aletia to respond to urgent emails when my dns was messed up.
aletia used to be great. then they grew and grew i guess and stopped responding, stopped appearing on chat, everything. there were folks who kept saying that they were fixing their ticket system, but i have a hard time waiting for months for THAT to happen.
i hope your new host works out. AWH has done me wonders.
cheers!
tensixteen64 04-05-2002, 08:27 PM Thanks, Bully...so far so good! In fact I have had someone talk to me today complimenting me on the site! Isn't that just peachy? :) Finally the site resolved in my little corner of the world and all is well, kinda...
I swear, I put in a ticket to close the account for this domain that I moved to the new host, 2 days ago! They aren't answering my questions. Now, I ask you, who keeps receipts after the payment is made? I need some number off of it so they shut down the right domain. I can understand that, but shouldn't they have the number for the domain? What about the IP address? Geeeeeeesh! I will end up paying this month, I just know it as I'm getting ready for the payment on the 7th. I hate when customer service gets so bad that they ignore simple questions. If I had the money, I would yank all the sites! I will be keeping the numbers off the receipts from now on.

bully28 04-05-2002, 10:16 PM if you pay with paysystems (autobilling to your visa/mc every month), then go to <aref= http://www.paysystems.com>. from there go to cardmember service center and enter the amount you pay aletia and the digits of the card you use. it should come up. there's a handy little button there that allows you to stop future charges.
do this before monday and yer golden. that way you don't need to pay ron, laura and everyone else at aletia who can't seem to find a 'reply' button any longer.
hope this works for you.
workingklown 04-05-2002, 10:23 PM Infodoma (http://www.infoadoma.com) is a really good host. Great support and really fast servers, I haven't had any major problems with them.
I got 100 mb and 1 gb of bandwidth for only $5 a month. You can get a specail price if you say "Klown sent me"

that's what i did. you can't rely on aletia doing it correctly. some ex-customers were still being charged after they cancelled their accounts.
tensixteen64 04-05-2002, 10:42 PM Thanks for the info, but I have 4 domains on Aletia...so, which one is the one I want to cancel? ACK!
But, I know for the future, when I do move them all from Aletia. ;)
Sara
tensixteen64 04-06-2002, 01:40 PM This morning I went and moved the domains, except for one to www.insiderhosting.com Then, I went to Pay Systems and they had charged me at Aletia already for the month! I swear. I have cancelled any future payments, except on the other domain. That was easy enough as it has a separate billing date, later in the month. I cannot wait to move this last domain and be done with them!
Thank you for the info! :) OH! And I'm saving all the reciepts from everything.
Sara
hey sara, sorry i didn't spot this thread until now. it's sad to see you leave! anyhoo, you can try these if you haven't already:
http://www.tera-byte.com
http://www.f5hosting.com
tensixteen64 04-06-2002, 11:14 PM Thanks Clio, I have one domain on there still. Y'know I sent in over 8 emails the past 3 days...no replies to any of them, simple questions too. Today I get emails left and right when I cancel the paysystems. I swear they are making money and not giving support over there.
I went with www.insiderhosting.com and I'm happy with the support and everything is quickkkkkkkkkk. :)
Sara
Do you know about the new ticket system? Don't send in emails, because you can't mark priority and stuff. Go here:
https://secure.aletia.com/support
and mark it "critical" if it's in regards to billing and stuff.
There does seem to be a paysystems problem lurking, including with signups as well. i haven't read up on it tho. anyhoo,
Good luck at your new host. :)

It looks like insiderhosting is a reseller of Ventures Online, housed in VO's new NOC. Good for you!

Hey godfather,
You are 100% correct in that we are resellers for VO. If you search for some of my posts on this forum you will see that we don't try to hide that fact at all. We actually are quite proud of reselling for one of the most respectable and dependable companies in the business. This allows us to offer our clients top of the line hardware and bandwidth for a cheaper fee. We also have servers elsewhere, but we found VO to be the best place to host our clients.

I never said that you did.
My sites are hosted by VO -- that's why I was congratulating GG for finding a host that uses VO's incredible new NOC.
tensixteen64 04-10-2002, 10:48 AM :) Godfather thank you! Steven is a wonderful person to talk to about hosting options. I swear he was on Q with me for about an hour, answering all my questions. And the best thing is that he is still on Q when I load it up in the mornings. He also follows up with questions I ask when he's not online with an email containing the answers. Never did I get this from Aletia, not even in the beginning.
Clio, I did go to the support tickets and do it that way. Did you know that once a ticket is open you can update a ticket by email? They still charged me  even though I cancelled before the charge went through. And I cancelled the recurring charges too, but paysystems went and charged me on the 9th, yesterday. I am disputing this as I cancelled then they charged me. Like I said, I still have one domain there, no problems yet with it, but I will move it as much as a headache that will be, if there is even an inkling of a problem.
:D Sara

i'm glad you're getting away from aletia. myself and dozens of people that i know have done so also. does it surprise anyone that paysystems and aletia have a deal with each other and they both RIP OFF their customers?? strange.
Zorbs 04-11-2002, 09:08 PM my friend, who had a site on Eagle with relatively few problems until now, has decided to leave. Hallelujah!
and B3ch - she went with cyberpixels and said her account was set up by a real person in minutes.
