How much would you be willing to pay to advertise on a forum like Web Hosting Talk but it is going to be growing ALOT more. How much would you be willing to pay per click and how many would you buy?

if it was WHT(or like it), I'd probably pay $8 or more per click (yes you read me right)

can't get any more targeted than WHT....

I would say I would pay 2 dollars per click.,. I dont know if this is an insult to WHT or not.. But I think it is crazy the prices DellHost and Datapipe etc are paying for there PPC advertisments.

Maybe 'pay-per-click' is a bad idea. I know I click on competitors sites all the time - I never buy anything.
Pay-per-lead would be more logical.

Even exposures would be worth paying for in such a targeted environment like this... As long as the price wasn't too low...

Want to tell me what you are up to TimPD? I am interested in knowing more...

We're not insulting Web Hosting Talk at all. If you're interstered in knowing more about this project please contact me on PM. We're not ready to publicly release the site as of yet :). We're working on getting prices together and wanting to know what users would pay.

Hmm, anyone ever analyze how many WHT visitors are webhosting company owners, and how many are website owners interested in who the 'best host' is?

(I have been assuming the majority are the former.)

Oh.........

If it's a brand new site, I'd pay 1/3 of what I said before for WHT....at least until it grows to WHT's size

Does any users have any more suggestions? We're still taking suggestions before we come up with a final rate :).

What measures would you be taking to ignore invalid clicks?

All the good places only allow one click per visitor on your ad, and use neat little tracking to identify and remove clicks from people who would just click on all the ads of their competition.

They use cookies, sessions, and IP addresses to do this.

If you provided the same, I might pay $0.50 - $1.00 a click.

Otherwise, I would only settle for a non PPC method.

Of course, I'm not in sales. :)

For the things at the top of the forum, like they currently have.
Maybe flat rate of $500/month

For a '468 x 60' pixel banner, around $.75 CPM.....or a $.20 CPC...

Not that much, I mean 80% on the people on these forums already own there own hosting companies.
And unless your business's biggest profit comes from resellers, I advised not to advertise on here.

Just my thoughts.

(BTW, This is my first day so forgive me. But as of now, all I see is everyone and there grandmothers with a hosting company.)

I would never pay per impression since a large chunk of viewers -- probably the majority, in fact -- are going to be webhosts themselves, and not exactly in the market for my services.

I would also want some sort of measures to ensure valid click-throughs, as bitserve suggested. Love the pay-per-lead idea, but I don't know how you would track or enforce it.

We'd happily pay $10 for pay per sale. :)

We already have the client end set up for this, from using commission abduction, er, I mean commission junction:smash:.

Castlemelody is a web design company which also offers graphics design -- logo, banner ads, etc. We can make use of the ads in your proposed forums. What we want is that we pay only if there is a sale coming from your site.

Well, we have an affiliate system in place using Clickbank. If you use it on your forums, then there is no more worries on tracking sales. It will be like automatic. And it keeps track for a period of about 90 days. We will be glad to provide you the banner ads. Just tell us what dimension would it be (468x60,etc). You may also want to tell us using PM where the site is so that we can adopt our banner to the website.

Let me stress again. We will be glad to be included on the ads if you use our affiliate system. We don't want to bother on paying/sending you the check ourselves. That will only add to our overhead cost. Also, using Clickbank will simply make our lives easier. There is a third party that is independently tracking sales and providing the payment.

Kindly check our website for our affiliate system.

Thanks.

:)
