View Full Version : new record
Akash 04-03-2002, 05:59 PM Seems as if we hit a new record yesterday:
There are currently 138 member(s) and 72 guest(s) on the boards. Our Record is 233 on 04-02-2002 at 04:47 PM.
I'm sure the RackShack deal had something to do with this...
My prediction is that our record will be 400 by the end of the summer... anyone else wanna make a prediction?
diederik 04-03-2002, 06:02 PM Hmm we can even bet money on the new record :D
I'll bet $5 on 399 users :D
porcupine 04-03-2002, 06:02 PM I predict that this sudden publicity (it's on a lot of news sites, etc.) may upturn webhostingtalk.com in a good or bad way. Personally, i dont think the market place should be so educated and competitive, i mean lets face it, 99% of the people here are gunning for, and getting the best deals, bar none, that could put a lot of hosts out of business if they had no choice to compete with the best of them for every single customer. It's like running a mom and pops shop and then having a wal-mart open up across the street from you :).
.::DefCon::. 04-03-2002, 06:04 PM Hmm... I don't bet. :rolleyes:
Or wait. Sounds tempting. Let me think this over. :)
(I'm in a competing mood this evening, have you noticed? :D)

okay then, make a prediction and bookmark the thread....we'll see who's right on September 21, 2002 (the first day of fall)
diederik 04-03-2002, 06:24 PM :D
.::DefCon::. 04-03-2002, 06:34 PM Well, I want to enroll, but the thing with this type of bet is that you never know! Maybe, due to the entire RS <--> WHT thing, these forums will be deserted within a month or two!
I mean, who can tell?
/me is still considering whether or not to make a bet.

well it could go the other way also...if HS doesn't make a mistake and advertises WHT right (print ads, tech sites like cnet, etc) then it could go well
.::DefCon::. 04-03-2002, 06:40 PM Allright ! You're on! :cool:
My bet is 10$ for 350 users at a time. :)
The one who is closest to it, wins on September 21st, 2002.
Everybody follows? 10 bucks?
The winner will be payed by all players by the end of September through some credit card processor (PayPal, 2CheckOut or so ;) The one that you use for your business).
WHO DARES 2 PLAY? Last bet on: April 7th (Sunday), 2002 at 6PM Central European Time. :D
*oh God, this is going to become an interesting thread*
And gambling is on our prohibited list.
Ummm...somehow we'll make an exception. Maybe I'll use my own 2checkout account and let the big cheese guess what I'm up to.
On another note. Any time we get a sales inquiry from a Web Host, I'm asking our sales department to provide a link to this site as "added value" to the potential client.
Are we going to "over/ under" a specific date?

I predict that tomorrow's weather may be different from today's, either hotter or colder.
Personally, i dont think the market place should be so educated and competitive,Hmm... personally I can't say that an educated marketplace, in any market, can be a bad thing. Competitive, that's a different thing; and I guess you're commenting on the extremely low prices offered by so many hosts here.
But really no host has to compete here. WHT, recent records notwithstanding, is a small corner of the web and WHT members are a tiny portion of the webhosting marketplace. A host can come here and take advantage of free advertisement and easy visibility, and if they do they'll have a lot of low-cost competitors to deal with.
But nobody's forced to compete in this segment of the hosting marketplace. In that way it's not at all like having a Walmart open next to your mom-and-pop store.

As for over/under....
On September 21, 2002 whoever is closest to their prediction wins, and if there is more than one person, they share the title :D

Our Record is 234 on 04-25-2002 at 04:45 PM.
We broke the record within 23 days...just 3 weeks, we can do better!!!
Make a prediction and see who's the closest....so far its DefCon
How about we all make a committment to visit WHT at 5PM EST everyday??? Let's see how RS's presence will affect these adverse conditions at WHT :D :D :D
.::DefCon::. 05-03-2002, 05:24 AM Ghehehe, I'm winning, I'm winning...

Akash 08-10-2002, 12:33 AM Well just over 3 months later we're now at a record of 320....
A month and a half left till the end of summer and I think we can hit the 400 mark...:)
Any body else care to make a prediction?
Acroplex 08-10-2002, 12:37 AM 344 on August 27th.
fractiousws 08-10-2002, 12:40 AM I am going to go with 1 (been watching to much price is right :D)
UH-Matt 08-14-2002, 09:06 PM im a newbie myself, it seems its more customers than hosts registering these days.. It seems VERY competative in here and GREAT for the customer to get an absolute bargain.
It would be great to see us hit 400 with more webhosts than customers, increase the amount of shared knowledge bubbling around in here thats what i say!
Tux-e-do 08-14-2002, 09:10 PM I bet there'll be more than there is today :D

I agree - i only ever see "i want stacks of bandwidth and disk space and everything under the sun and i only want to pay $20 / year" type of posts. Personally (as a host) - i never come here to tout for business - just to keep upto date with all sorts of other stuff and whatever is going on in the industry in general really. Our average revenue per client is probably > $500/month - the sort of deals you rarely see on here (maybe i'm looking at the wrong part of the board :-) ). I think the type of deals that do get done on here only represent a small proportion of the industry as a whole. My opinion - i may be wrong.
UH-Matt 08-14-2002, 10:01 PM couldnt agree more with you castle.
The people looking for hosting on this forum simply play hosting companies off against each other until they get something for nothing. We should all stick together and not fall for it :)
Akash 09-16-2002, 03:04 PM Our Record is 384 on 09-13-2002 at 09:58 PM.time is in CST
In just over a month we broke the record by 64 people! Great job guys! :)
Now we have just a handful of days before the end of summer....can we hit the 400 mark before Sunday???
SoftWareRevue 09-16-2002, 03:20 PM No.
Akash 09-21-2002, 10:30 AM Just a few hours left guys......come on....every one check their PM's in 5 hours - tell all your friends :D
