I signed for a box (Duron 1Ghz, 512Mb, 40HD, 400Gb/mo with Ensim) last thursday, nearly one week later i still cannot use it.
The server never worked (it begun crashing but working after a reboot, but continued crashing and not working after the reboots), and now i dont have any response from customer service. I didnt change any config file, neither install any software, and after a lot of trouble tickets opened by my and closed by them without resolving nothing, now they wanna charge my another $29 for restoring the system, instead of paying me for all the days that i cannot use the server. They said the box could have been hacked because the ssh doesnt accept the root/admin password, but nobody a part from me and they know the existence of this server, and i turned off telnet the first day, moreover the ftp neither allow to login, so the problem must be another. I wrote the customer service explaining this is their fault and that they must restoring and test the system without charging me anything, but after two mails and more than 24 hours i still dont have a response.

Although is not my fault I would pay for the restore if they guarantee the box is going to work OK, but if this happened without doing anything, probably this will happen again. Moreover, i have just read on his Ensim forums that there are more people having similar problems.

What is happening here? They sell servers that doesnt work and after that they are not responsible for them. I'm feeling impotent, i'm not from US and dont know what to do...

If somebody from Rackshack read this my customer id is 0176305.

Thanks for reading my story and sorry if this forum is not the best place to post this...

<<MOD NOTE: Please post the last part on rackshack support forums>>

I suggest that you work your way up the Chain of Command at Rackshack. If all else fails, send an e-mail to the CEO headsurfer@rackshack.net (He'll fix the issue for you, and if all that doesn't work...... Read the terms of your Credit Card agreement regarding "Not receiving a product/service you have been charged for"

You can also PM headsurfer right here on WHT.

I'm sure that he'll take care of his customers (YOU). Post an update here and let us know how this resolves out.

Thanks to God (or probably headsurfer) they has just re-opened my last trouble ticket and update it with this:

Going to swap out entire server including harddrive

I will update this post with the result.

I re-opened the ticket and gave you a brand new server now, tested logging in, all passwords work as of right now. Thanks.

I am quite curious to realize if that has been a server misconfiguration or an Ensim failure

thank you

It actually appeared to be hardware related.

but nobody a part from me and they know the existence of this server

Check out http://project.honeynet.org/

I think the people at honeynet said they've plugged in a machine and had it hacked within 10 minutes. Just FYI.

I'm guessing it was a bad harddrive. When I first bought my Duron box from RackShack, it kept crashing over and over and we couldn't figure out what was causing it. Turned out to be a faulty harddrive, as soon as that was replaced the sever ran like a charm.

Congrats on getting everything up and running.
