I want to make my ads budget and my question is:
How much $US do you spend for advertising per month?

How much do you get for every dollar invested?

Haha. The results seem to be pretty spread across the board. Good luck at using that information to find a budget for you. :)

You really should budget as much as you can afford. It shouldn't be related to how much others are spending. A better poll might be to ask what percentage of profits are being spent on advertising.

Or for those operating at a loss, what percentage of your spending is done on advertising?

Anyway, in the short term, I'd say that we get $0.50 for each dollar spent. In the long term, we probably get at least $10.00 for each dollar spent.

The number to calculate is "cost of acquisition". If you spend a year's hosting fees to get one signup, that's a lot, in our book.

Thanks for the replies.
In my opinion the maximum reasonable "cost of acquisition" should be what the customer will bring you as a profit for 3-4 months. What do you think?

Thanks,
Peter

To calculate your maximum COA, just figure out how much profit (not revenue) you make (on average) per customers.

Speaking of COA, has anyone had any experience with CPA campaigns?

Most of the hosts that invest heavy in ads have above average prices for their hosting plans. Is that something like a rule in web hosting business?

Well, what _is_ the average price for a small web hosting package? :)

If you search on overture for "web hosting" 1-st result is DataPipe. I'm getting similar plan to the plan below for $20/month including MS SQL Server 2000 and the only restriction for my SQL space is my account web space. DataPipe will charge me $75 for just 50MB SQL space ;) + 50 for the actual account + 20 for setup he-he. Compare $125 vs. $20. This is not the only example.
