Since the F2S free server was closed on feb 28, i've been frantically searching for a new free host. if you don't know what exactly F2S was, it had 20mb of space, (forgot the bandwidth), www.yourname.f2s.com, ftp upload, no ads whatsoever, and totally FREE.

if there is such a host still out there like this, i'd apreciate it if you could help me out!

Thanx a bunch!:D

Totally free.... no ads.... You wonder why they closed shop?

I don't think you will have an easy time finding such a host...
You may be able to find somebody thats nice and has a dedicated server that would let you tag along or something... I plan to get a server again down the road, if you don't find something contact me and maybe I can help you out....

I don't know what else to say, the reason they put ads up is because they have to pay for the hosting, and if they don't make money off you somehow, then they better be a charitable organization getting a lot of donations... donations... I should start a host by donation....lol... /end rant before I get going...

Completely agreed roly.

Are the ads really that much of a problem?

"You get what you pay for".....

I don't think anyone should want to find a host that doesn't want money, or advertising, or at least some form of compensation...

311, I was surprised at how fast their page loaded... They probably go to greater lengths to make their page load faster though...

about the www in the URL... that doesn't say much for them, they can't make a simple DNS entry to allow access to the site without the www...?

www.fateback.com
& www.xentrik.net ..but no FTP access.

free hosts usually only state unlimited bandwidth because they couldn't monitor it anyway

IMO, that's not the question webmasters should be asking (or be asked).

The true question is: "Can I afford a few dollars per month???"

New webmasters (or those that host their sites on free services) should look at how many resources they are actually using and go for a low-cost paid host. From my experience, these webmasters will find their site to be accessed faster and will be able to enjoy the added benefits

Remember low-cost doesn't necessarily mean low quality. (just as high-cost doesn't necessarily mean high quality)
