To some it up, My RaQ is on crack, MySql's gone to hell, and PHP is f----- up.

Mysql has never worked along with php properly, and recently, when attempting to install phpBB2, i got this error message:


The php configuration on your server doesn't support the database type that you choose


I chose the proper database type, so there must be a misconfiguration deep in the bowels of my misbehaving server.

any ideas as to what I should, could, or can't do?

did you try the RC-4 release of phpbb2 and choose mysql 3.x as the database ?

yes. I have tried all versions

does your phpinfo shows mysql enabled under the mysql section and does it shows the Client API version 3.23.xx ??
