View Full Version : Is Anyone hosted with tera-byte down?
baddealings.com 12-31-2000, 10:00 PM This has been happening way to much recently, and I was wondering if anyone else with tera-bytes hosting is down? Why does this seem to be happening very frequently with tera-byte, should i ask them to switch me to a better functioning server?
My site hosted with tera-byte.com, so far so good, I haven't seen any down time, as far as when I build my site. What's your site anyway?

I suggest you email them and ask them why this is happening. I would also recommend you go over to netwhistle.com and sign up and monitor your site for downtime. This is the first time me is hearing about tera-byte servers mis behaving. Let us know how it goes.
his server was down for a reboot at the time he wrote that and yes my servers act up just like everyone elses :) that perticular server has had its fair share of outages but its one of the problems a host is faced with on shared hosting accounts. someone makes a misguided decision (running an infinite loop on a mysql database for example) on their site and 200 people suffer the consequences.

Glad it got sorted out :) How about assigning a execution limit for php? I have to admit, I wrote a infinite loop once, not on purpose, and when executed kept sprining out "execution time of 30secs executed". I was abusing the damn PC, until I realised the real problem.
Radnor 01-02-2001, 05:29 PM Just as soon as I see this message the server I'm on goes down. It's been down for an hour or so, so hopefully it will come back soon. That SQL infinite loop problem sounds mighty scary....!
It sounds mighty scary, and it can happen all the time with nearly any language - usually the result of novice programmers trying out infinite loops and not realising the effects it has on the server (taking up all the memory eventually and crashing it).
baddealings.com 01-03-2001, 02:48 AM i'm down again, this is twice today. Any suggestions?
Chicken 01-03-2001, 04:49 AM I'm not sure where you are on this spinning marble, but if you are within phone range, give them a call.
-Edward- 01-03-2001, 05:12 AM I've noticed in the last week at certain times of the day sites become unaccessable for a period of 3 minutes. But 3 minutes a day won't kill nobody.
Scott 01-03-2001, 06:19 AM Treat your web host like any other team member.
If this player is frustrating you, trade them; or wait and see what happens in the future... There are a lot of hungry hosting companies out there looking for your business.
Down 3 minutes a day at certain times, the down time does add up!
Not acceptable for many webmasters.
-Edward- 01-03-2001, 06:29 AM 21 minutes in a week?. thats not bad.
Scott 01-03-2001, 06:47 AM 3 minutes a day a few times a day?
There are too many good web hosting companies working hard for "up" time, quality support and your business.
It's your money.
-Edward- 01-03-2001, 06:55 AM All networks go through bad patches. Even though i wouldnt really call this a bad patch. I'm proud to say i give $99 a month to tera-byte.... They are a world class company ... Oher webhosts could learn a lot from them :).
technics..i do agree with you about tera-byte. the only thing i see that is somewhat bad is the bandwidth. i notice that its a lot slower than other accounts i have with vdi/alabanza based hosts. maybe it's because they are located in canada..no idea....
energy 01-03-2001, 01:20 PM I have a dedicated server with tera-byte.
The last downtime I remember which was caused by a tera-byte was over 2 month ago.
And it was for only about 1/2 hour.
That is pretty good.
the downtime baddealings is experiencing has nothing to do with our network at all, actually i havent had any network outages in months the outages are shared server related. ive also explained to him that if they are to excessive to email noc@tera-byte.com and we would move his site to a server not experiencing these problems.this is something i would do for any client (as long as their site didnt use the file types associated with the problem).

- what are the file types associated with the problem because i have experenced downtime in the last two days and i know of two other people who have also been experincing this,
currently on the server baddealings is on its an asp user.
and on one other server there is a problem with a mysql, other than that everyone is stable and running fine.So my point was i cant move an ASP made site off of taxi to another server that isnt experiencing this problem as it may be that user thats causing the problem

baddealings.com 01-03-2001, 05:55 PM Today, I got an e-mail from Steve explaining the whole situation regarding my site to me. He, as posted above offered to move my site from this problematic server. I will take him up on the offer and see what happens. A final comment about tera-byte is they provide awesome customer service. Whenever I send in a trouble ticket, it usually gets answered very promptly. I was having problems with my server, and now they offerered to move me. This is a very professional company, and I'm happy to do business with them.
-Edward- 01-03-2001, 06:13 PM I just found out that it was only me who sufferred this three minute downtime. Guess i'm just plain unlucky.
poohbie 01-03-2001, 07:57 PM baddealings,
I take it they won't be making it onto baddealings.com then. hehe. :)
