Well I checked this host out to. Do you have to pay for the domain name monthly to? And when youb register a domain name for 1 yr, what happens after one year is up? The questiona bout phpBB is, are they hackable? Can people easily get in and mess your stuff up?

Well I can answer the 2nd part of your question.

phpBB v1.4.4 has been pretty clean and hack free, but that's the older version. A lot of work has been put into phpBB v2.0 to make sure it's hacker free. It's not possible to say that any software is totally secure, but it's been in a public release canidate state for quite a while and that has helped a lot.

Hi,
ffeingol thanks for answering the 2nd part of the question about the PHPBB.

And about The Domain registration its just a one time fee of $12 a year. And after your registration period is over You Either renew your contract or if you dont wish to renew it after a while it will be available to the public.

And renewing the contract doesnt mean renewing your hosting plan with us, you could just renew the domain registration part if you wish.

and about frontpage extensions, they are a set of programs on the Web server that support:

>>Authoring FrontPage webs. For example, when an author moves a page from one folder to another in a FrontPage web, the Server Extensions automatically update all hyperlinks to that page from every other page and Microsoft Office document in the FrontPage web, directly on the Web server machine.

>>Administering FrontPage webs. For example, a FrontPage web administrator can specify which users can administer, author or browse a FrontPage web.

>>Browse-time FrontPage web functionality. For example, users of a FrontPage web can participate in a discussion group. The Server Extensions will maintain an index of hyperlinks to articles in the discussion, separate discussion threads, tables of contents, and search forms to locate pages of interest.

Thank you

You can download phpBB v2.0 RC-4 from sourceforge.net (www.sourceforge.net/projects/phpbb/).

Thanks a lot. I think I'll go with wisehosting.net :):):) So phpBB 2.0 is a lot better and a lot safer then phpBB 1.0 right?

Which RC is better? Whats the difference between the 4?

Yes, 2.0 is better than 1.x.

The RC numbers (Release Canidate) are just a sequence. 4 means it's the 4th one.

DO NOT USE A PHPBB2 RC PRIOR TO 4.

If you currently are, update it. If you aren't yet, don't even consider taking anything earlier. There's a pretty big security flaw in prior versions that several hacking groups are trying to exploit at the moment.

It is, however, fixed in RC-4.

Obviously, using beta code for a 'live' forum is a bad idea unless you're willing to take whatever consequences may come. PhpBB1 still works quite well, it just doesn't have quite so many features. (I'm still using it.)

PhpBB2 should be coming out before long, though. They're down to only a /very/ few bugs on the list.

Yeah, I just found my phpBB 1.4.4 on one of my personal sites, hacked.. rather annoying! I really don't have the time to fix her up either.

The current beta 2.0 is much more secure than the previous version.

Just check the bug tracker (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=7885&atid=107885) for phpBB. There are currently 8 bugs open. All of these are not necessarly bugs, but will be looked into.

just like ffeingol mentioned it doesnt mean that they are bugs, for example if I install it and approach a problem even though if its related to me, my installation, my server and etc.... I can think its an application bug and submit it over there !!!

The bugs havent been submited nor approved by the PHPBB people.

And I'll be making a post sometime this weekend about the load that it is generating.

We had some ups/downs for the first hour as the load spiked, but it's been stable after that.

It's chugging along with 100+ active users and the initial spike of over 300 users :bawling:.
