View Full Version : Company with the reputation for the fastest network
I am looking for a company that will deliver my pages to customers at a very high speed. I will pay a moderate premium for this. It seems that every provider I go with at peak times loses their ability to deliver at peak network speeds. Does anyone know of a company with a good reputation in this department?
anantatman 04-02-2002, 06:29 PM Yeah.. i've heard really good things about this company.. Apparently they have the largest global IP network.. I've seen their datacenters. Pretty nice.. the one in tysons is COLD. i had to work in there for 40 hours straight once..
ffeingol 04-02-2002, 06:35 PM We've had good luck with Pegasus (www.pwebtech.com). They use NAC and their network has been very good for us. Burst rate has also been very good.

GeorgeC 04-02-2002, 08:08 PM I think one of the companies would definitely be Rackspace.com
cyberhost 04-03-2002, 05:53 AM For what it's worth, I run a server at racshack and the speed from Australia is excellent - just like having the server next door.
apollo 04-03-2002, 02:01 PM inquiry... and get some good quotes. Then run some network tests (multiple times.. peak and off peak...) with traceroute, ping, direct file downloads.... the most expensive host with the biggest pipe doesn't always mean that it's the fastest...
also it depends what area/location you want to serve.. If your target base is Europe, I suggest you consider East Coast.... if Asia, I have seen better response times/speed with Data Centers in West Coast (a few asian telcos/isps have direct connections with West Coast Internet Exchange Points/Large US Telecom networks).

viGeek 04-03-2002, 02:16 PM Im going to have to say www.jynx.net
Im not even sure if they offer web hosting anymore, but i still have an account with them. VERY fast, im on a comcast cable modem which is restricted to 1.5MPS, and occasionaly on my jynx.net account i have seen 1.5MPS, download speed is always above 250kps though. VERY FAST
Test Download (Street Race Video 4MB)

You're right, jynx.net was extremely fast. I was getting 368k/s on my 3mbit connection through that test link you provided.
Their IP netblock is owned by Netreach Incorporated, which runs a hosting/colo operation through:
http://www.fast.net/hosting/un-dedicated.asp
I wonder if "fast.net" lives up to its name. Certainly if jynx.net is hosted there it is well worth the cost.
x86brandon 04-03-2002, 03:37 PM Wow.... 1600-1700 k/s from here.
chrisS 04-03-2002, 04:03 PM ahh good old jynx.net ;P
Hey Russ, hows the puppies?
Jynx.net is my server.. its based on netreach.. Not fastnet.
Fastnet only bought out the company, but the server still remains in the netreach building.
Its hosted on a SMDS Cloud. 12meg. and a 12meg connection from sprint.
www.netcarrier.net if you want speed. Serving pages also rely's on the server as well.
www.pastreetracing.org a good example of my work and my server. jynx.net hosts this site above.
100% of the site is pulled from a mysql database. Nothing is staticly written execpt the php code ;)
My server is a.. well i cant tell you that ;D
just that its not MICROSOFT based ;)
Erich 04-03-2002, 07:00 PM wow FAST indeed.... even from germany

Haha whats up chris, what ever did happen to jynx.net. I checked one day and the old site wasnt their. And a new site popped up which wasnt completed. Your server definately owns, i have a bunch of other sites listed on big name/small name companys, and none have even came close to yours.
ReliableServers 04-03-2002, 08:05 PM .5Mbit from a server located in NewYork on Paetec to that jynx site. Nice speed.
chrisS 04-04-2002, 01:35 PM hehe..
Well since i work for a ISP, its kinda wrong for me on the side to sell web hosting.
so jynx.net is my personal site now.
turning it into a php / asp / perl / scripting site sometime when i can design a layout for it.

What does FAST mean to you?
Latency, download speed, max burst, etc?
I'm seeing people answer the question from all different angles...
