Hi !

I have been using a DDS1 drive for a while now, however I want to expand my library of tapes for certain days. Incremental and full backups.

I have purchased a box of 10 Maxell DDS-3 125m/12gb tapes for knockdown price on an auction.

Upon inserting one of these tapes in the DDS drive is reads it and doesnt complain. However, I dont want to format it incase it ruins it.

The moral of this question is;

Will my DDS3 tapes work with my DDS drive ??

If anyone wants to know its an Archive Python SCSI external drive. Unsure of the model number.

Thanx !

I don't think it's going to work, but you could try.

You won't want to format the tape, unless you want to ruin it. It takes special hardware to format DDS tapes, that's why you will generally want to buy them preformatted.
