Their doman isn't resolving.

Is your site down also? Usually, most hosting companies have their site on a different server than their customers, a more stable one too.

Might have had a router go down or something like that.

There has been a construction related fiber cut in the time warner telecom network (some clown with a back hoe took out an oc-48) which brought down the albany and rochester new york sections of the time warner telecom network. They are working on re-routing all of the traffic affected by this accident currently, as well as repairing the break in the fiber lines. This was not prevented by our redundant fiber loops to our facilites as it was way upstream from even our local carriers. I will post more details as I get them. As of right now the network is back up but running slightly slower than normal.

So is Time Warner your only upstream provider? You should never put all your eggs in one basket.

We have a oc-12 sonet ring into our building here (2 fiber loops entering the building at 2 locations taking different paths) which is a pretty beefy connection, with a 3rd loop (verizon oc3 with qwest connection) coming in within 2 weeks... I dont know what went on with the redundancy upstream on the oc-48 where the cut was which should have been in place, but thats a little out of our hands. Its kinda the thing you just assume is there because you're told it is and you can't really check on it that easily. I expect a full report from them when this is sorted out and I can let ya know at that time what else occured.

easier said than done ;)

look around and you will notice one thing with most providers, even with 2 or 3 redundant providers, most bring it in via Verizon .. what happens if verizon fails ? (rember VDI a year ago) :)

Well, this could happen to anyone ... I hope that your customer would understand the situation, and I do hope that everything goes back to normal for hostrocket.com.

I have been a customer of hostrocket from about december of 2001. they support is usually pretty good, but every week their whole service goes down for like 2 hours, right when i need it. i din't know why, but they are really beginning to annoy me. their help desk has gone through some major layout changes, but no matter how "pretty" the look of the site, it all counts on whos on the other end of the computer, and i think its a buch of morons letting the money roll in. their service gets a 7/10. anyone got a better host out there for me to switch to? i just check out cyberpizels :) :D !?!?!?!

Thanks guys/girls
