View Full Version : Jumping Into the Reseller Arena, Some Questions.

Hello everyone. I own a small webdevelopment firm in the Northwest, and have about 8 clients. These eight clients I am currently paying 10 dollars monthly to have them hosted on a server, then I, in turn bill them. If I was able to have one base package to be able to resell acounts out of it'd be much more profitable for me. Then I happened to stumble accross this website. I may even be able to provide a fairly profitable system to resell just hosting as there is no such company in this area.

Now would you please direct me, I need a fairly cheap solution at the moment, yet reliable. I am not asking for a 9.999% uptime, merely a 99%+. From what I have read, I am fairly positive I want WHM for me, and CPanel4 for my clients. For each "domain" or account, I setup, I must have a virtual private SMTP/POP server, so I could have ten domains, each with info@domain.com and mail.domain.com. Also access to MySQL for each client and the ability to limit the number of databases I provide to them.

Between 2-3gigs of disk space, and 20 gigs of transfer. Will be needed total at this point. Also, how do I work my name servers for my clients? Currently I have ns.myoutscourcedhost.com and ns1.myoutscourcedhost.com, etc, you know the drill. Now will I point all my clients to a domain I purchase, such as ns.exbabylonhosting.com?

Would those of you with similiar needs let me know what you use, who to stay away from, and just some basics of how this all works? So far I have checked into PixelSeven, SplashHost, Voxtreme, and a few others. PixleSeven has pricing and resources similiar to what I was looking for, yet I'm not sure on their reliability as their website isn't real clear on a lot of things. Whatever host I run with must be someone who will be around for a while, not just a fly in the night come and go company. I plan on being around and want a company who will be able to grow with me.

Best Regards,

Alex Stanton

I am guessing you are looking into bulk style reseller plans. Basically you would buy one large package which then allows you to split the disk space and bandwidth between your clients as they need it and create your own packages. Usually your host will set you up with your own private nameservers so that there is no trace of your reseller provider to your clients. Those will also be the nameservers you will use for your domain as well as the nameservers that you give to your hosting clients.

If you're thinking about a WHM/CPanel reseller plan, once you got your nameservers and domain running, you would simply log into WHM, go to "Create an Account" and enter all your client's details, then send them a 'welcome email' with all the login information and your nameservers as well as their corresponding IP addresses. Then they will need to update them with their registrar which takes 24-48 hours ...and their website will be live on your server.

Hope this helps :)

That's exactly what I had planned to do. My question, what resellers out there provide what I'm looking for, and who's the cheapest? Also, how do you manage your clients who need a shared SSL cert and don't have the cash to get their own? And what resellers make it easy to setup a shared SSL, and is it fairly simple to add a private SSL cert to different domaind I resell?

So in essence looking for:
------------------------
Private Virtual POP/SMTP For Each Domain
Multiple Domains Per Account
Private MySQL Database for each account
Easy SSL Management
All the other features of a Redhat 7.2 box
------------------------

Oh, one last thing, what are the fees involved with setting up my domain to become a nameserver?

Thanks everyone for helping this newbie out. I'm so used to logging into CPanel and managing my website, now I get to learn some of the inner workings of this system.

Ok if you're after bulk plans you did a good choice.

Now my recommandation goes to splashhost.com (http://splashhost.com) because they have a great uptime and a truly and honest support.

Try talk to Alan to convince yourself because I'm pleased with his choices.

You can use your own nameservers (with YOUR unique nontraceable ip's)

Good luck ;)

Any fees for these private nameservers and IP's? And any feedback on anyone besides SplashHost? They do seem like a great company, however I also like the looks of Voxtreme and PixelSeven, some feedback would be appreciated.

You could always set-up a SSL certificate through WHM and then use it for your clients. If your secure hosting domain is https://www.yourhost.com/ , then your clients will be able to use https://www.yourhost.com/~username/ if they don't want to purchase their own. Most hosting companies will give you your own private nameservers free of charge with the reseller plan.

Judging by your requirements and my personal experience I'd really suggest you check out Voxtreme (http://www.voxtreme.com) again..

Their support is great and with their new server and moving away from VDI, their uptime will improve a lot. And at the moment Voxtreme appear still to be growing at quite a rate.

MCHost gets my vote and i believe they've been around for longer and have a pretty large customer base. They had some growing pains a while ago but with the additional support staff everything is great now.

Their forums are addictive :dgrin:

I highly recommend datahosts.net their servers are extremely stable haven't had a downtime since I signed up their speed is extremely fast when I upload download stuff from their servers I usually do about 1.2mb/sec and their support personnel are extremely knowledgeable and helpfull. Their prices are great and they offer the bulk reseller package so before you make your decision make sure you check them out.

Any other options/comments out there? I want to choose a right host the first time through. I finally found an email address for PixelSeven, I am leaning heavily twards them at the moment, I suppose I like to go against the flow. Still waiting for a reply from him.

So, here are what seem to be the options...

---------------------------
Voxtreme (Heard some negetive)
PixelSeven (Haven't Heard Much)
SplashHost (A Fad)
MCHost (Not Cheap)
DataHosts.net (Haven't Heard Much, no IP's Listed)
---------------------------

I require shared SSL, private POP, and at least 15-20 IP's to start out with. Let's hear it guys!

Providers of the above services, fell free to either email or answer here in the thread... I want to hear from eveyone.

At me a similar situation - urgently I search for suitable plan. What you will recommend? It would be desirable cheaply, quickly, reliably and conveniently:)

I personally would recommend Integra (http://www.integrahosting.net). Technically, they do offer bulk reseller plans and you don't have to pay 80 bucks a month as I've seen with other hosts, only for the actual reseller plan plus whatever resources you allocate to your clients. Check 'em out.

Or you can resell by account with Ventures Online or Hosting Matters. Both are good. I can also recommend Spashhost. I've done business with all three, and had no problems.
