Hello,

In case you haven't seen, there are quite a few cool domain names with HOST in them that were just deleted.

As my way of giving back here they are ... hopefully someone will find the name they have been looking for ;-)

Why would anyone want this name?
What can you possibly do with this name?
Does this mean that this name was previously registered by someone? :stickout

Yes, all the names were previously regitered and now they are dropping. If they weren't registered through netsol there's a good chance you could grab them now.

The one I liked was webhostreviews. My wife has banned me from buying any more domain names ;-)

Whoever registered that long one must have been very bored. Some of those domains are fairly attractive.

Oh yeah ... she prattles on about not having developed the ones I have blaw ba blaw blaw ba. Sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher. :-)

I told her I only have 30 and the guy down the street has 100, but, alas, no go. :-)

I don't think any of those are any good. Well, maybe a few are okay, but you can bet that people will confuse webhostguru.com with hostguru.com, etc. They aren't all bad -- most of them are compeltely worthless, but the one's that are okay, aren't that great. This is the case with any domain someone will allow to drop. I've never seen any domain that's definitely of any value (i.e., something you couldn't find a free one on your own just as good) ever dropped or deleted.

I never have, not yet anyway. Of course, it's a preference and some people like some domains that other's think aren't very good. However, if you do know of any really good domains, let me know if you don't get them. :-) Seriously, anything that's good, won't drop. Someone will back order it or something before it drops, if it's that good. It didn't used to be that way, but since they started offering back order scams, it's changed and I don't think anything's going to slip by now.

How are they scams? The back order services seem pretty legit to me. Maybe SnapNames is over priced, but I wouldn't call it a scam.

How do you find a list of dropped names like this? I have a really old domain that I can't wait to become available just because I'm tired of getting all the garbage mail and email from Network Solutions. It's technically been expired since mid-December, 2001. I'd like to know how to find this for other reasons as well.

Thank you for any information anyone is able to provide.

I call it a scam, when registrar's aren't supposed to hoard domains, hold them unfairly and stat that it's "first come first serve" and that they "won't allow people to reserve or otherwise get the first choice over expering domains" and it's "your job to contineu to check them until they are free and only then can you register them". Yet, they only allow "certain companys" (i.e., Snapnames) to interface with their registry to check every 1 or .5 seconds to immediately register the domain once it is finally dropped -- at a higher price, of course. This is a scam, plain ans simple and it's also affecting what registrar's people have choice of. If you want a domain that's expired, you have to use Snapnames or risk someone else using it to back order it -- the only service (or one of a few, none of us are allowed to query their database every .5 seconds!) -- and you have to choose from one of the 3 or 4 registrar's that Snapnames offers. Indeed, a SCAM!

rather I will call this as unfair trade practices and not SCAM. but these services are useful specially when you want to grab domain and don't want to pay current registrant $1000.

Fair enough, perhaps "scam" would indicate that you didn't get what you paid for and in the spirit of the definition, I will retract that term I used and will just basically state that it's unfair, goes against their stated rules and policies on some of these registries own sites and they don't adhere to them themselves. They are controlling the domains more than they should be able to. If everyone was allowed to interface their database every .5 seconds and be able to have it automatically register the domain without going through pages of filling in fields, then that would be different. This is most definitely unethical business, since they aren't supposed to be allowed to do this. If this was the stated policy and people were aware, and they agreed to it and that's just the way it was set up, I could deal with it better. I can deal with it now, but it sure makes me want to use the word "scam" still -- even if it's not definitively correct. After all, it is misrepresentation, they are telling people they can't do this, but allowing only certain 'services' the ability and making ap rofit that goes against their rules. It's close to fraud, and that would equate to a scam. Perhaps this is simply my view, but I feel that is is justified.

i dont think snapnames are a scam, they offer a legitimate service. They are not all that great in getting expired domain names though, any decent names that I have had a snapback on have always been registered by one of the professionals, you would know who they are, cause they own most of the best domains.

My comment was about registrar's like Network Solutions, not Snapnames. After all, if they are able to provide this service, even if it's resulting in contradicting Netsol's rules and policies, then more power to them. I'm not sure how people still managed to grab a domain from under Snapnames -- did you have the domain on watch/monitor/alert status, or did you actually pay to back order it? If you back ordered it, then it's likely (*and perhaps this is what you mean*) that another company went directly to the people that the domain was about to expire from and bought it directly from them to not risk losing it to someone else after seeing it was back ordered. If it wasn't, then they simply (or likely) just back ordered it before you did or since no one else did yet.

tim, i had an actual snapback(paid) from snapnames on the domain name months before it was actually deleted, and was beaten out by someone else. This is a common occurrence, just in case anyone believes that snapnames are the be all and end all of expired name services. They are a good choice, but are far from being the best in the game.
