Does anyone have any experience (and solutions/fixes) for Outlook (Office XP version) and Outlook Express 6 opening slowly? I click the icons, the program welcome/splash screen pops up and it stops there for what seems to be an eternity and then finally loads up. It's annoying as hell and I can't find a fix...

No thanks. lol
My recommendation, use a diferent mail client.
If you insist upon using M$'s outlook.... its not going to be the fastest program... M$ never does a very good job of conserving resources and taking the fastest route for operations in their software... they are getting better, but they work around money and deadlines. The people that set these deadlines, and the people that make the software do not have sufficient communication, as the deadlines are always about a quarter of the time it actually takes to make the program. That is why everything made by M$ has their auto-update features, and there are constant fix packs..

just my 2 cents I guess...
Sorry I couldn't actually help you with your problem...

Outlook opens fast enough for me when it's functioning properly, but this problem just started happening. I know for a fact that it isn't normal, I just don't know how to fix it :-/

320MB -- Trust me, it isn't typical Outlook slowness ... something is just wrong.

Maybe a reinstall, or a defrag... or... ?

Jeff, I had this exact same problem with Outlook for Office 2000. I'm not sure if Outlook XP is afflicted by the same problem, but this may sound familiar: if a session of Windows has crashed with Outlook running, the next time Outlook runs, it takes a long time (depending on the size of your Outlook .pst file) to rebuild the indexes, the e-mails and the folder structure, and it won't let you run Outlook until it totally rebuilds itself. Every time this happened the re-building time became longer.

Microsoft has a dedicated Outlook XP support center (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;ol2002) but it's severely lacking in help thus far... Some of the other XP resources may help. :(

Sorry I couldn't be of further assistance.

It actually happened after a defrag and scandisk.

I had a similar problem when I disabled MSN messenger from the windows xp policies section. If you re-enable it, outlook will start faster. Then you can disable MSN Messenger through the outlook options window. This was my problem, don't know about yours though.

Heh, thanks but not too fast ... Outlook is opening fine now, but now it keeps asking me to re-enter my password every single time I open it. I keep telling it to remember the password but no joy as it keeps asking me over and over again. Anyone ever experience this problem? If so ... howdja fix it?

Jeff,

If you are running XP, and have stopped or disabled the "protected storage" service, then this will happen. PM me if you need further information.

svdorr,

I am indeed running XP Pro. I'll look into the protected storage settings and I'll PM you for more intel if needed. Thanks a lot!
