View Full Version : About web hosting marketing
RackSlash 07-26-2005, 03:51 AM Hi,
I started web hosting business from reseller package, and now i am leasing server from theplanet. And I want my hosting business bigger.
Could you guys give me advise?
I want to hear how you guys do marketing on web hosting business.
And how much do i need to spend on AD or CPP?
Or is there any AD method?
Help me..
dollar 07-26-2005, 05:15 AM You want us webhosts to tell you how to get customers? That wouldn't be very good for business would it?
Do a search, you'll find quite a bit of info on the topic. The end result will be:
1. Local market, go there first
2. Niche marketing, find your special place to fit in, don't sell to everybody
3. PPC is good, but plan on having a ton of money to dump in it
4. Banner ads can work, but ask yourself how often you click on them
Chrono Cr@cker 07-26-2005, 08:09 AM Firstly, I advise you to check up your hosting packages. Today, money is everything and therefore if your packages are quite cheap, members will come flowing into your hosting. Offer more services other than hosting, like free scripts, etc. Next, I would advise you not to join any backlink/link exchange program. These would do more damage to your website than good and make it look cheap.
Advertise on forums. There are many good forums just for webmasters other than WebHostingTalk. Go there, post about your service, invite reviews from members and emphasize on why you are "THE BEST"!
Finally, have a clean and proffesional layout which consumes less Bandwidth and be ready to give support to your members at least 12 hours a day. Try to get your website a good position at Search Engines especially google.

2Mhost 07-26-2005, 08:26 AM why you want to be web host ?
I advise you to make your own website, clean and simple website is much better than template used at least 100 times.
then review your plans, I'm not against cheap hosting (ofcourse) but 100gb plan is funny!

100GB Space + 1500GB Bandwidth = $10.50 / month?!?!?!?!
C-4 Hosting,
Where did you find that?

Looked in his profile and went to his web address in it.
andren 07-26-2005, 01:20 PM There is even a better plan there: 350GB Storage, 3500GB transfer for 13.95$/mo (unlimited plan). Some people may want to give up their server...

WOW he really took this to the extreme:
1GB Space, 60GB Bandwidth - $1.50/Month
steven-v 07-26-2005, 02:20 PM LOL, another "midphase" and a lot of chargebacks from customers on the way...
intek 07-26-2005, 02:40 PM Hey jong85
Obviously you have over sold your products. You need to scale down a little. How about your 1GB plan, how much can you afford to sell this amount of space for? Can you afford to give 60gb of bandwidth for just over a dollar?
Paypal will take $0.25 out of that so you have made 1.25. You will then need to calculate your time setting up the account and maintaining the client. What is that $5 and hour?
You are now negative -$3.75 .
You need a business plan.
Good luck.

Jojja 07-26-2005, 04:04 PM I would suggest niche and local marketing, most local companies will pay a reasonable amount each month for a good reliable service. You may not end up with as many clients but your income should be better.
There was a good thread in the reseller forum about Dynamic (sp) and his $700 reseller plans that makes for good reading.

I have a question about this. What are other forums besides WHT? I am trying to increase my customer base also and am not doing the best at the moment. I would at least like to break even.
One thing I would recommend to you, jong is fix your support page. That is one of the first places I click to see what support is. If I get a 404 error, there is no way I would consider going with you.
gilbert 07-26-2005, 10:18 PM is midphase still around, they havent advertised here in a while

I say this with a note that I am not being mean, but IMHO for shared webhosting starting with a dedicated or decent VPS you should be looking at around 6 months to a year to break even (properly run business).
In any event I hate answering a question with a question but what type of customers are you looking for? The boards you are going to find are going to be niche boards most likely. Do you want to target designers? Maybe you want to get together a custom CMS and target gamers?
mmarketing 07-27-2005, 09:16 AM These are my marketing and advertising methods and so far they have worked well:
-Forums
-SEO
-Directory and Search Engine Submissions
-Incoming Links to My Site

Yes, in my research and the business plan I wrote I am not expecting to break even for approximately a year. I am trying to target small business clients who would like more recognition for their business. I currently have a few local businesses, but I am also trying to target families who want to have a family website to keep out of town members up to date. I have noticed quite a few family websites recently, and more and more families moving away from each other. Any ideas?
