I got this email from paypal to day saying this

This letter confirms that we have not received a response from you to our numerous communications relating to the negative balance in your PayPal account. Sustaining a negative balance is a breach of PayPal's User Agreement. As of the date of this letter, the amount due and owing of this account may include accruing charges, attorneys' fees, and other charges as provided by the PayPal User Agreement (the "Agreement"). Finance charges continue to accrue on this account to the extent permitted by the Agreement, federal and/or state laws.

Please send full payment to PayPal within one week of this letter by adding funds to your PayPal account according to the instructions below. If we do not receive payment, we will be entitled to file a lawsuit against you for collection of the debt. It is also possible that we will refer the matter to an independent collection agency so that they may pursue the debt on our behalf

Regardless of whether or not you cancel your account, you will still be in debt. They will take further action and collect.

If it is possible to mail/post payment, it would be a good idea to try that option. In any event, it would be a good idea to open a dialogue with PayPal to get a bit more information.

they also say this in another email

Your account balance is currently negative due to a recent fraudulent funds
transaction that you received.

When you receive a payment through PayPal, if the steps necessary to
qualify for our Seller Protection Policy are not followed, you are not
protected against a subsequent reversal of the transaction.

In the event that the sender's transaction is reversed for any reason, and
you do not qualify for the Seller Protection Policy for that transaction,
you must reimburse PayPal for the amount of the reversed transaction, plus
any fees imposed on PayPal as a result of the reversal.

Please add funds to your account and make your balance positive within the
next seven days. If your account balance is still negative after seven
days, we will pursue all available collection options. You can restore your
balance by mailing a check, money order, or cashier's check. Only U.S.
currency is accepted for check deposits. If you send a check, it will take
7 days before the funds are credited. If you send a money order, it will be
credited 2 days after being deposited in the bank.

i think that is wrong doesnt anyone agree

Ask them to give you some more time and apply for a credit card. You should pay them for negative balance no matter if they will take any action or not.

Reversal of payment is our fault as we dont verify orders before activation and paypal cannot be considered responsible for it. Its advisable to verify IP location and address of new signups and give them call for verification.

Well I don't know what they will do to you, but seeing how they've screwed so many other people, they have no right to demand money from anybody.

I've never had to deal with this sort of issue personally, but I would assume that unless you owe them a great deal of money they will just write it off and cancel your account. It would most assuredly cost more in legal fees to try and collect then they would recover.

Of course the ethical thing to do is pay your debts to those you owe.

Wait a minute, serversolutions - if you're too young to apply for a credit card, then you're also too young to have a Paypal account. You're supposed to be 18 to open and maintain one. Also, if you don't pay it and Paypal finds out you're under 18, they might go after your parents for the money.

If a transaction got reversed, you're responsible for the fees and to bring your account to at least a $0 balance. It's no different than having a checking account.

serversolutions, How long between the sale and subsequent discovery of fraud took? Did you withdrew the cash of the fraudulent sale? Or was it the chargeback fees that you're owing only?

How much was it? A few hundred or thousands of dollars for the negative amount?

serversolutions
08-02-2005, 05:59 PM
where does it say on their site then?

Hi serversolutions,

If you or any one else withdrew the cash before the fraud was discovered, any payment gateway would come after you - definitely. Not just PayPal, any one would. Cos if you withdrew the cash, then PayPal got to pay back to the beneficiary bank. Simple as that.

Don't pay it. They won't go after you. It is their fault they allowed the fraudulent transaction in the first place. If you pay them, you are giving in to those golddiggers.
