I've found at 'domainsite' for $1.99/1yr, 2 year
$8.76. Do I have the same payment for the next 2nd, 3rd, etc... years?

1. If you sign up as a DirectI reseller you can get it for $1.11 a year until the end of the year.

2. Renewal is going to be $7 or so no matter where you go. That's the "catch"

I only wanted to register one .info domain and have to deposit them $75? ;-(

I'm not sure, I got my account with them when I got my whois.cart license and I never had to deposit $75 to start or anything.

"If you sign up fresh today as a Reseller and send in a deposit of $75, you will qualify for the $6.99 per Year pricing. Now suppose in a period of 2 months you have added Funds in your Reseller Advance A/c totalling US $675. At that very moment, our system checks your account - it will change your pricing to $6.75 per Year for .com/.net/.org domains and $7.49 for .biz/.info/.us/.name Domain Names and $0.35 for Domain Forwarding, Mail Forwarding, Managed DNS. This pricing change will affect all Services purchased from then on. It will NOT affect already purchased Services."

Bottom line is that Afilias.info, the registry for the .info names, caught on to the idea almost a year ago, that if you either give away, or deeply discount .info names for the initial year of registration, it not only creates free publicity (like YOUR post here) but it also forces people to renew at the regular price if the site is a success.

So it is kind of like a discount "trial period."

I think it was a brilliant marketing campaign and I believe it will be duplicated by many of the other registries over the next years.

If you want .info domain for $1.99/ea, you can register it here (http://theflypaper.com/). But hurry, promotion lasts only "48h" (which means a less than 48h now).

The .info domains at DomainSite are probably the cheapest you can get ;)

just find out: registerfly.com offers .info domains for 1.99$ for up to 5years. enter code "infospecial"
Also you can (with same domain) order whois pretection: enter code PROTECTFREE .
So, you can get domain and whois protect for 9.95/5years! :)

Try to do a search on RegisterFly in this forum. Quite a few of horror stories, to say the least...

You can get .info at registerfly for 1.25 each if you do 50 or more. I have several thousands names with them and they are fine.

DomainSite is fine with $1.99, and don't worry too much about next year: they may well be some promo from the registry, who knows!

Hey,

who dont have horror stories? Managed.com, godaddy, 1and1(oh, i believe rackspace dont have it... but no, there were some complains about thelinuxguy :) )You still believe? Iknow, cheap product cannot be premium, but... even if its without support - i like it :) In this case looking only at the price :)

Today have tried to do a bogus order for .info at RegFly, using 'infospecial' code and was quite suprised - the 1.99 price is valid for upto 10 years! I mean for 10 years you only pay USD19.90... Not that I will use RegFly again, but I always thought this .info price is 1-year-only special...

Now i'm starting to regret about registering domains with registerfly.com. Got 3 domains with them(for 5 years) and none of them work(ofter 75 hours). One domain even not registered(yes, its available for registration, doesnt metter what i already paid and changed ns). Other two worked one day and after that went down... Wrote ~17 hours ago, still got no reply. Their "Customer Service NEW Rapid Response Support(1-2 Hour Responses)" doesnt respond..... already lost hope :/
And what is very nice wrom their side, what their email is in spam list :D Got it into bulk, spamassasin wanted to delete welcome letter :)
Yes, its very nice company. More such ones :)

Stan Marsh

e-view, I never experienced such problems with RegFly before, but ... whatever ... new day - new 'surprise'. Their 'customer service' is quite ok when speaking about some minor matters, like 'when my domain transfer will be finished', 'please add protectfly to my new domain', 'my spamfly email account isn't forwarding any mails'... For these I've received quite good and timely support (NEVER in 1-2 hour timeframe, however). BUT if something is really awry, they are simply USELESS.

Anyway - good luck!

Yeh... :)
Sad what they dont have live support... maybe their justification was eated by spamassasin? :D

You're overestimating them if you think that live help will actually help you. Anyway, you're always free to call (if you wanna be put on hold for at least 30 minutes and then hanged up):

It will be cheaper then to register those domains again.. call to usa for me cast ~1$/min. :) Interesting, can i get cash back because i didnt got service? At least, if i'll register this free domain with domainsite.com...what they will do? "yes, we understand what you "registered" this domain with us, but now you have to chose another, because it's busy?" :/

Stan Marsh
10-17-2005, 06:39 PM
Trust me, you will receive a canned 'sorry' only, if anything at all. Most probably your ticket will be just closed, w/o any resolution...

Been there, sone that...

Sounds like you did a multi year .info registration this would not be allowed. The registry only gives the promotion on 1 year. If you do more than 1 you pay full price. I seriously doubt you would like them to bill you 9.99 x 5 when you only expected to pay 1.99 x 5. As long as they refunded the charge no harm done.

Yes, but they registered domain... i saw whois(untill 2010). And i have been charged for only 9.95$. There were no warning sign in their website, i pressed update cart and got right price(programming mistakes is already their problems i suppose).
I hope they cannot charge me next year for 9.99-1.99=7.99$/year

Huh... i suppose this is not the way thei catch clients :/

They may need to update their site or just put in logic to handle it. I suspect most people do the one year which is why they do not have a note posted on the site.

The affilias promotion is only for one year registrations. Renewals will be at full price for all registrars. They are charging registrars .75 each plus the .25 icann fee so the registrar pays 1.00. If you do multi year or you renew expect to pay more since the registrars cost will increase to 6.25

Damn... just checked whois.ws - none of domains are registered. :/ They droped them, because yeasterday i saw whois - it was saying untill 2010 :/ (domain transfer could solve all problems, right?)
Ok, i'll ask for chargeback :/ huh.....

dmaven
10-17-2005, 06:56 PM
They dropped it because they have 5 days to drop or else pay they are stuck with the full amount. Their registry account got wacked for 6.00 x 5 (plus.25 cents) or 30.00. You probably paid 10.00 so they would lose 20.00. Just verify with them but I would suspect they deleted the charge.

Actually if you add a .info to your cart and use the code they include in the newsletter "INFOSPECIAL" it gives you a link to the specific requirements of the promotion

Special Promotion

Promotion code
INFOSPECIAL

Promotion Expires
2005-10-16

Special Requirements
You must have at least 1 .info domain name in your cart when you attempt to use this code. This special promotion is limited to 1 year registrations only. Multiple year registrations will be charged full price (9.99 /ea).

What if you'll NOT use the code?

I again tried to make a bogus order for one .info domain for 10 years and at the end was 'invoiced' a 29.90 amount.

Yesterday, when the promocode was still valid, this amount was 19.90 - no requirements.

Localpub>. your domains is still work?

Then anyway its their bug: they register it for 10 years(for 1.99) and charge you 19$. So you can move them away(because thei already registered for 10 years... like i saw using whois.sc)? I didnt catched the point? ;/

dmaven

The pricing as I stated above applies to all registrars. It seems their .info pricing (2.99) is promotional anyway. If you look at their renewal / transfer pricing it is 8.99

e-view -> I made a 'bogus' order, as I've stated above. It means I ordered nothing, just tried to do so.

dmaven -> what 'renewal' actually means? I think it's the payment after the initial registration. If the initial registration was for 10 years, renewal will happen only on 2015. Or am I misunderstanding something here?

I had domainsite when they had up to 25 .info domains for free, and while I am not sure I like their technical system, as I had to register nearly every name server I wanted to use through them by emailing their tech support before I could use it, and their renewals where insane, they were fairly good. I still prefer having TLD's in the accepted suffix instead, simply because people rarely seemed to recall .info names.

What do you mean accepted suffix?

It looks like you have answered the question yourself.

As the addition, people seem to memorise ccTLD's, specific to their country. co.uk in GB, .pl in Poland, .ca in Canada, etc.

cdngeek
10-19-2005, 08:30 PM
Apologies, yes I meant the main 3, .com, .net, and .org. Few even know .edu, though it's easy enough to figure out. When it comes to ccTLD's, it is fairly easy for people to remember the location, but I cannot recall how many emails I got asking where in California I was when I had geekworld.ca, and that's the reason I left that domain behind and went with a .com and .net.

Whoever said that was dead wrong. Oddly, my audience was the more tech savvy among the net, and I still got that. I was thoroughly disturbed by all those MCSE and MCP holders who'd email me...

Hi,

Did anyone else order 20 free .info domain names from MyDomain.com when they had the offer?

I did and mine are up for renewal in December and I would like to know what options I have?

Could I transfer some of them to somewhere else? If yes then what is the cheapest tranfer option available?

I took domainsite's offer of 25, and recently allowed them all to expire, as I had never found much use for them.

Hm... I just found out. http://stargate.com still accepts orders for multiple years at 1.99. You can register .info for 10 years for 19.90!!! Wow...

(I think it's a script error their side and they either will not register your domain at all or come after the money later on).

You may wish to verify with Tom at stargate. Affilias has the same limitation on .info for 1 year only. They may not be aware people are trying to work around this
