I have an old account at ************* that I basically only use for email. Now for the last 48 hours I could receive emails but was not able to send any emails. I asked them what the problem is and this is their reply:

Lars,

We no longer offer an outgoing mail (SMTP) server. You must use your ISP's
SMTP settings in concert with the mailbox username and password issued by your
ISP. When signing up for our services you agreed to our TOS which states that
we can terminate services as we please without notice and you accepted.

 Is that normal? Or is this a bad April Fools joke?

Hi,
That is not a verry nice way to reply to a customer you want to keep.
It may be normal enough for them to stop allowing SMPT (outgoing email) but the explanation should have been much more nicely stated, and they really should have sent out a notice to their customers.

There are plenty of hosts that offer SMTP, just look around for one that fits your needs. If e-mail only, you should be able to get a smaller end plan, and be fine.

I hope the rest of your day gets better,

Tim L
