Out of nowhere my the telnet and ftp servers have gotten so slow the ftp times out before connection. Re-boot no fixey. Had this problem a couple of times on slackware but never figured it out. Just re-installed and everything ok again.

But this time, I want to fix it!

Don't think I touched anything that would effect this but was working on dns, apache, new dirs etc all day. The dns and apache are like lighting. Just the telnet and ftp as best I can tell.

Sure would appreciate a tip from someone 'been there, done...'

Sounds like a reverse lookup issue. Check your /etc/hosts and your /etc/resolv.conf files.
