View Full Version : Choice Between These Registars

I'm not doing any reselling and just want to register a domain with the hopes I'll have easy access in the control panel, at least decent services, and a company who isn't down every 22 minutes of the day.

I'm between:

Stargate (two sites for 16)
DirectNIC
and I guess Doster or 000domains

I'm not really trying to spend more than 16 a year.

Thanks for any help or suggestions

I have a good experience with dotster so far. It's been over a year now and no complaint. All customer support quries were answered in reasonable time.

I recommend www.stargate.com - Their control panel is easy to use and their prices are easy on the wallet ;)

I second this one. We are using them (STARGATE) and in fact affiliating with them to refer our visitors their way. Quite easy control panel. You can change the information in there easily including registrant info, etc. like when you are selling the domain. (U know what to do if you want details).

StargateInc is definitely the way to go. The control panel gives you the total control of your domain name. I've never seen any downtime on their service, and the price is very affordable.

Bulkregister is not bad at all, we've used it in the past. But Stargate is better both in price and control panel.

I cannot comment on others since I have never used their service. I heard some good things about them as well.

000domains (http://000domains.com) offers great service and they're a reseller of openSRS (http://opensrs.net) which is an added bonus.

directNIC - the best
namecheap - better price and service that rivals directNIC

I have domains with Registerfly. Quite Ok, the only problem is their support response time. If you wait for them, ICE AGE will arrive.

Great,

Stargate increased their prices to 13.95 , multidomains to 8.85 and transfers to 10 dollars.

Will you continue working with them yet or you will change your registrar?

I personally use DirectNIC, although I have friends that swear by GoDaddy.

With DirectNIC, you can get a daily list of expired domain names. I'm a domain name junkie, so I like that feature.

I guess I'll use stargate if i would register 2 domains or more.....but maybe 1 domain I'll try godaddy....

I wonder why they increased their prices...it was still 8.85 when i checked yday.

I see. I didn't know they changed their prices. I guess the recommendation will have to be removed on our website then.

I will have to ask them for the pricing of old accounts with them.
After all, the control panel is still great!

At any rate, we are actually considering reselling domain names as well and from the looks of it, it will be a choice between enom or opensrs.

Actually i realised if u use features like domain forwarding and their email services....it's still more worth it with stargate because godaddy charges extra for that.

Namecheap.com ICANN accredited or a reseller? Can't find them on the ICANN site.

I have a few clients with Dotster and haven't heard any complaints.

Goodluck!

I like DirectNic. I have a few domains on GoDaddy, I don't like them that much because they spam your email box.

But the problem with the directnic is this:

http://www.directnic.com/features/ownership.php

They are charging $15 to the recipient of the domain ownership which some registrars offer for free. So if you are selling your domains, directnic is not the best option.

But I didn't see anything about him wanting to sell his domains. Or maybe I missed it?

1- Would someone please tell me if namecheap charges you when you want to transfer domain to somewhere else or to someone?

This is the case with some of them.

2- Is there any other costs?

3- How is their service, support and control panel?

Regards,
Mac

1. Don't think so.

2. Well, there are ALWAYS other costs. But as far as I know, all the main features are included in the base price (including URL and email forwarding).

3. Service and support seems good. Control panel is fine, easy to use and convenient.

It's right on the front page of their site: Free online transfer of ownership

2- Is there any other costs?

None that I've encountered

3- How is their service, support and control panel?

All in all its worked out well for me. Support has always been fairly rapid for me. The control panel is quite nice IMHO.

Abu Mami and Dave,

Thank you for your comment.

My CC always has problem with stargate. Every month it locks for 3-7 days issuing an error "Maximum Fraud Score Reached !" and I must submit a ticket to solve it.

Ellew, Are you serious?

Do a search here about them. I had openned a support ticket 2 months ago and 3 days ago It was open yet. Other tickets are closed without any reply and suddenly (without any notification to you) and sometimes are deleted :)

Just pray not to come accross a problem otherwise you must leave your domain name.

I myself will not register a domain with them even if they drop their prices to $2.

So far I've been very happy with GKG.net (http://gkg.net). Not the absolute cheapest, and only handles .com, .net, .org, but I've had no problems with their servers, domain maintenance is incredibly easy, and support has been very responsive.

My vote's for Dotster.

I register all my domains through them, and they are usually ready to go 12-24 hours after registering them.

I have no complaints with them so far, and I've used them for about 2 years now. Their site is very easy to use.

I'm totally late on this, but we use 000.domains.com and have for at least a year now. Never a problem and I love having everything in one panel. I switched to them because I have learned, you get what you pay for. :)

I have used Directnic for about 3 years now.... they started as an opensrs reseller. They have been icann acredited for around 2 years or so... (maybe a little less). I transferred all of my domains from netsol to them when they were an opensrs reseller and then I transferred them at the next renewal to their icann acredited side.

Contact and nameservers are a breeze. They also offer access to dns records for an extra $5/year. The $15 that someone mentioned for transfers actually adds another year to the original expiration.
