Hi all,
I am planning to build a system which is for video encoding (mpeg 1 to wmv format). Should I go with Dual AMD or P4? Which one you think is faster for encoding video? Any comments are welcome.

Well, as far as I know, in order to build a dual p4 system, you need to buy xeon chips which are more expensive. If you check out tomshardware, you will see that the dual athlons are less expensive and perform better in almost everything. The memory is slightly less expensive but more cooling is needed for an athlon. I suggest you checkout the benchmarks www.tomshardware.com

Asus Dual P4 motherboard http://forums.2cpu.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16578
but whether it's good for web serving not sure
my personal choice would be dual pentium 3 tualatin 1.4 ghz with 512k L2 caches

I would go with the dual AMD system because that encoding process is a bear and the amount of CPU power you have will determine the encoding time & speed.
