I'll post my experiences with Dellhost (aka Interliant)...
I picked Dellhost as my host before I found out they weren't really run by Dell, I was fooled by the Dell brand name, which was why I went with them - I use Dell as my primary PC/Server vendor for a corporate environment and they are so rock solid I couldn't be happier... I realize now I'm not dealing with Dell as my web host, it has been resold to Interliant - so here's how things have gone, which so far has not been bad bad considering some of the prior complaints I've read about Interliant...
I selected a shared hosting package 150MB Disk, 10GB transefer, 10 POP3, CGI, 24/7 (supposedly) e-mail & phone support, etc...
Account registration and domain DNS move went as planned...
When I began to up load my finished design I had FTP problems (extreme slow response, resets, time outs etc), which after I called them and opened a ticket they resolved in about 14 hours, a little slow but ok...
Completed uploading, everything went smooth and started in on some cgi scripts and have found they don't seem to have all Perl modules loaded on my server, which is somewhat strange - they don't have DB_File installed but they DO have DBI Perl and even DBD-Mysql installed but omitted DB_File for some reason... So I have put in another support ticket with them to request this be installed as of about 48 hours ago now I'm still waiting for a response...
Host performance has been very good so far - the web site has a high bandwidth section which loads quickly and would probably load horribly on over taxed server so I'm happy so far with performance...
The 'Control Panel' they give you really doesn't give you much control over the site and the web statics software they use is 3rd rate at best, you will have to use your own CGI to make up for what is lacking the best you can, if you actually are looking for useful reports on your site... I have seen way better web based controls on smaller web hosts. Also no web based mail which is nice to have if you move around a lot.
I'll report back on the DB_File issue - I hope they can resolve this as I know it's EXTREMELY simple(ppm install DB_File from shell) I still consider them on "probation" with me - as I need a host that can perform to my needs if they can deliver I will keep them - if they fail I'll axe them and find a more suitable replacement. They are still too new with me to pass final judgement...
So I'd rate like this so far:
scale of 1 to 4 stars:
Support: **
HTTP Performance: ***
POP3 Performance: ***
Up Time: ***
Admin Controls: **
Perks or extras : *
