I am about to buy a server, and I would like to know whether to get myself cpanel or plesk as a control panel, which sould I take, and why?

Both cPanel and Plesk are very good control panels, I would suggest you to search more about their features on the cPanel and Plesk forums.

Seeing myself as an administrator, i would suggest the usage of plesk as it is mysql based....that is you wont need to reset any passwords ..if you want to check something for the user accounts.. but the interface is pretty heavy for the users ...


seeing myself as a user, i would suggest cpanel as it is light and flexible to use....but you need to have a reasonable knowledge of the file systems to administer a cpanel server.....

if you are an expert ...go for cpanel...:)

in short with plesk admionistration is simple

Plesk allows very little room to customize your server--IE, changing PHP's version could 'break' Plesk.

Have you looked into H-Sphere?

Also, use the Search feature!!!!

HSphere is good for clustered architecture.

It really depends on what kind of clientel u are aiming for. Cpanel is easier on the end user end while plesk is easier on the admin end.

I work with both plesk and cPanel. I prefere cPanel because if I have a problem its easy to troubleshoot. The interface is easy to use and explain to customers. Plesk has its strenths too. Its interface is easy as well but it is missing some functionality that cPanel has. In cpanel you can park a domain on top of another, making it an alias to that domain. cPanel makes that very easy. To do that in Plesk it will take up an account and you have use forwarding.

I would say that cPanel has superior DNS managment to plesk. You can allow a reseller to edit the DNS zones of his accounts to fit nearly whatever they want. I'm sure you can do that as well in plesk but its more restrictive.

I have cPanel on my server and I have no complaints and have had no problem. Minor glitches were easily fixed and they didn't intefere with the normal operation of the server.

I would say go for cPanel, much better to do what you want with it.

I've been using Cpanel for about 4 years and I have no problem. I used it when I was a noobie to the internet and it was the easiest to learn(plesk wasn't around then). I advance and I soon found cpanel much more functional when getting to the server side. I had used plesk for about 4 months and I HATED IT, all my customers did was complain about it.

I would suggest cpanel as the user end is easier. Which is very important!!

I like DirectAdmin. Cpanel is very good too.

I prefer Cpanel, for it the best one!

It's only aout operating system. If you prefer the Windows , use PLESK certainly and prefer the Unix use Cpanel..

I partialy agree with pexolas as windows does have good control panel than plesk...Hsphere is a good option , is you are using a clusteringmechanism, and moreover enzim provides a more stable performance than the earlier versions of plesk......but i do feel that the plesk 7.5 generates a performance as stable as enzim

I would highly recommend a cPanel system.
Easier for administration, easier for end-user - and cPanel is actually faster than plesk.

Plesk itself seems very clunky, hard to navigate and seems totake over your system worse than cPanel (and I considered cPanel bad, now that I've tested out other panels I have to say cPanel is easily the best)

hSphere is to cPanel what a tractor is to a Porsche... hSphere is entirely UNcustomizable (please don't tell me about the flaccid "customize logo option") and the terminology used is foreign and unusual. Don't even get me started on how rediculously complex the plan setup is....

I have cpanel and plesk and I would suggest cpanel as it has more features than plesk and it's very easy to use :)
