Unless your registrar is also providing your hosting there will be no downtime - transferring domains is a purely administrative process.

Assuming you are talking about a GTLD domain (as opposed to a country code one) the general process is:

- You open an account with your new registrar
- You initiate a transfer through the account with the new registrar ("How?" - "Follow the instructions that you will find somewhere on their web site")
- You wait for confirmation requests to arrive and deal with them accordingly

Make sure that:

- Your domain is unlocked (if it's locked any transfer requests will be automatically rejected)
- You have access to the admin contact email address (which is where the confirmation requests will be sent)

Ashraf, contact your registrar / their support staff and have them unlock the domain name.

Dont forget to check the domain manager area. Most of registrars allow their clients to lock / unlock domains from account only.

Good luck!

mehboobashraf,

Where is your domain name registered at? If we have that information, I might provide you more details about unlocking the domain name. Otherwise you can contact your registrar customer support as CSDesk advised

The domain is at mydomain.com. The user account also includes other domains. I just want to transfer 1 domain.

I am sorry. You are right the link does not work:

To Get An Transfer Authorization Code

1) Login to your account.
2) Click on the Domain name or use the "Search for a domain in your account:" function to find and click on your domain name.
3) Near the very bottom of the page, click the link that says, Request Authorization Code.

The system will send your Authorization Code by e-mail to the Account Owner Email Address. These codes are for your .org, .biz, .info, .us, and .cn domains only. you do not need an authorization code to transfer a .com or .net domain.
