PayPal recently introduced a new -- invisible -- credit card gateway feature for business account that process credit cards for purchased with PayPal remaining invisible to the buyer, and not requiring the buy to be a PayPal member.

Looking it over, it's pretty impressive. You can even batch and use AUTHs and all kinds of stuff.

There's even a virtual terminal for processing in-person and call-in orders, too.

Is anyone using this?

Do any of the popular billing programs have any plans to add this new PayPal gateway to their payment options?

I investigated it and found out that...

1. It would all be free until 31/10/05 then it's 20$ per month besides the regular share on your sales...

2. It's only available on US meanwhile.

I think they made a perfect solution, it's a shame it only work in the usa and then you'll have to pay for it.

After doing a lot more research, I think it's going to be good for certain things, but it looks like recurring payments are going to be very difficult, or impossible, with it.

I still plan on heavily using the virtual terminal since I also run a computer repair shop. People shy away from PayPal but using just a plain CC will be much easier and I think I am going to see an increase in sales because of this new service.

I am currently doing some research on which MAP to go with and we have eliminated paypal b/c of text they force you to put on your site.

Specifically, after the customer is ready to checkout they are forwarded to a screen where they fill out the billing info. Atop that screen there is a button that allows them to pay via a paypal account.

Paypal forces you to add the following text next to that button:

"Save time. Checkout securely.
Pay without sharing your financial info"

To me this implies to the customer that completing the transaction on my website is not secure.

One quick note... referring to Everspeed's post above, if you have a computer repair shop and are doing point-of-sale (card present) transactions, you may want to consider a retail merchant account as a less expensive alternative.

And... IsThisThingOn - that is an interesting point that you make.
