View Full Version : .hm registrar left town?

I have a .hm (Heard and McDonald Islands) domain name (pringle.hm) with HM Domain Registry, the registrar. Well, today it seems they've all left town. The DNS servers are down, when I try calling them (in Australia) they're phones are disconnected. I use this domain for email so this is rather painful.

Any ideas on what to do next? I've tried finding a site that will allow me to transfer the domain to, but no luck. Apparently there's a problem with transferring country code domains? Even if I did find one (any recommendations? - I'm in the US) can it be transferred if the registrar is not responding, and you can't even get the domain info?

Any help greatly appreciated!

thanks,
Steve Pringle

as per http://www.iana.org/root-whois/hm.htm
the registry is http://www.registry.hm/

and http://www.registry.hm/ is working for me just fine.

what error you're getting?

wow! It's back up! Since apx. 1AM this morning I was getting a time out trying to connect to them, including pinging all their DNS servers!

I'll go check my email, see if it's been stored anywhere...

Any suggestions for a new registrar? I don't want to be in this situation again!

thanks,
Steve

hmmm... well, their phones aren't working (disconnected) and when they're down you can't email them.

Is there no recourse?

I put it a complaint at icaan, but no idea if it will lead to anything.

thanks,
steve

might want to look for a more stable ccTLD than .hm then.

operated by verisign would be a good option for ccTLD IMO also famous a bit than other doubled letter ccTLDs

.HM is run by capital networks. They are doggy...

They had their .au registrar accreditation revoked in Australia see www.auda.org.au/news-archive/auda-29042005/ and have a long history of stuffups and scams, overcharging and inability to transfer away.

Steve,

I have started a dialogue with ICANN about .hm and its problems. I also have a .hm domain. If you are interested in retaining your .hm and want to know more let me know.

Zom.
