Where do you purchase your server hardware and operating system?
Do you build the server yourself and if so - regular desktop case or rack-case?
Where would you buy RedHat 7.2 as an example?
Thanks!

Why buy Red Hat?
Download their ( or any other distro) ISO legally and free of charge from
http://www.linuxiso.org/
as for hardware I often see great deals at Dell for 1u servers.

Thanks for the link. That saved me $49 + shipping from Amazon. :D
Yes, I saw those 1U servers from Dell. They look nice. I will look into those as an option. I usually build all my PCs myself and are wondering if I could build a rack server myself, too.
Will see.
What do other folks do? What brand do you buy for your hardware?
Thanks!

For Linux/BSD OS for very affordable rates I suggest cheapbytes.com CD-ROMS (good quality CDs and cheap shipping). Used they a few times - so far so good...
ps. But you may also download ISO images and burn your own CD-ROMS. But this will require a high speed connection - you do not want to download 600MB+ image using dial-up :)
