View Full Version : Confused - Reseller, VSD or Dedicated?

Now I am starting to be confused ... and I need your advice

Im a currently a reseller for a host around here (which one, you can see in other threads), and would like to change.

I have already a large customer base, but some of them are hosted for free, at least for the moment, so I cannot afford too high prices for the move.

I was told many times that I should take a dedicated server. If I take RasckShack, I could afford their new offer, but I am afraid I do not have the proper experience to manage the server. I am a newbie in the Linux world (although I did use it already) and I want to increase my level of service for my customers, not lower it.

Then I look at some private servers offers, like RemarkableHosting, which look nice but the price is as high as a dedicated server... why is it so? What advantages would I get over a dedicated box?

And finally, looking at some resellers plans like McHost or Splashost, I could probably go with them for a while (much better prices), although I would probably need to move again.

And finally, how do you handle a move of your accounts from a current host to a new *whatever... host, dedicated box, etc. - all suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks :)

The reason why most individuals/companies choose bulk reseller plans instead of dedicated server is because they don't have to manage the server themselves and can focus more on providing customer care. :) Some reseller plan providers also offer the option for their clients to upgrade to their own managed dedicated server once they grow out of their reseller plan and usually you can move between the reseller server and the dedicated server without any downtime. If the machines are in the same data center, sometimes within a few minutes to an hour.
