One of my domains is expiring at 25th this month, I would like to transfer to Godaddy from eNom as it is way too expensive for eNom. Is it possible for the transfer?

I believe eNom will allow transfers like this, though I have heard of other registrars not.

GoDaddy is one of the registrars that has strict transfer rules.

I have successfully transferred domains away on the VERY LAST day, but don't try it at home yourself. :D

In my experience transfers typically tale 5-6 days to complete. Depends on the transfer-out procedures & policies of the losing registrar.

I've done transfers to/ from OpenSRS, Enom and Godaddy within two weeks of expiration but you should allow yourself more time incase something goes wrong.

Ideally do the transfer at least 10 days in adance as decan occur.

*SOME* registrars dont allow it 30/60/90 days before and after renewal, but you shoudl be fine with enom/gd

Actually, ICANN's site says this:

http://www.icann.org/transfers/dnholder-faq-03nov04.htm

My domain name has just expired. Can my registrar require me to pay for a renewal before I can transfer to a new registrar?

No. Your new registrar of choice can initiate a transfer request on an expired domain name once they receive the required authorization from you. Expiration or nonrenewal of a domain name is not a valid reason for denial of a transfer request.

Note that if the registrar has already begun the deletion process on the domain name and its status shows it to be within a 30-day Redemption Grace Period, the name must be restored by your current registrar before it can be transferred.

As I posted in another thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=422911&highlight=icann+transfer), however, some registrars may not
have updated their software to allow this. So you should transfer
your domain name before expiration, preferably at least a week.

Actually, ICANN's site says this:

Doesnt matter what ICANN site says, each registrar is at liberty to impose their own terms and conditions above and beyond the ICANN rules.

There are some that simply *dont* allow transfers at all - depending on TLD etc

As othellotech states it is at the registrars discretion their particular policy

One of the reasons I like about Tucows/OpenSRS is that they allow transfer away AFTER expiry. That is or at least was a policy stated by one of their senior staff in the reseller mailing list. Of course, it will be up to the reseller themselves who often do NOT allow that at their end. ;p
