Well, GXHOSTING has thrown in the sponge...but not without leaving a mess.
Shortly after receiving email from a mailing list that doesn't allow subscribers to post, my ftp and ssh access to sites at gxhosting evaporated into the thin air.
gxhosting had said they gave names of their customers to yournetspace.com, who would be happy to be of assistance.
The mailing list is hosted at hostingventures.com under the name of gxhosting@hostingventures.com
But, enough of the blood-related multiple companies, same physical address, etc. (except that linuxwebhost.com is in the mix)
In any event, here's an answer from yourspace.net in relation to my asking them if they could assist me in getting files:

We are not affiliated with gxhosting.com, we sent the letter out, with their permission but we are not taking over their company and we are not part of their company. We own yournetspace.com, the site that gxhosting.com is
referring their clients to. We can not help you with your account at gxhosting.com because we have no access to their records as we are not part of their company. If you have questions about yournetspace.com I would be glad to help you but I can do nothing about your account with gxhosting.com.

At this point I am so confused about who owns what and who, that I may just walk up to the building that houses Alabanza and all these other folks and see if they are in the same suite of offices. Perhaps we'll find one cubby hole with a multi-line phones, multiple terminals and customer service reps with green eye shades.
And of course, through all of this, Alabanza won't say anything, since they protect the information of their customers...or so they say.
If anyone who was on gxhosting needs a new home, drop me a line...I'll be happy to share the name of one company that
helped a lot without reaching to the bottom of my pockets.
