Hey,
I have a problem.
I have my own server colocated and about 50 customers on it. Currently these 50 customers take about 5GB of bandwidth per month but this server is connected throught slow connection so I would like to move to different provider. I pay $200/mo. for colocation with 512kbit/s (not brustable) As OS I'm using Linux 6.1 and H-sphere as control panel. I know Linux pretty well.
Ok. I have to change provider and I need Your advice. Should I:

1. Go for $99/mo 4webspace.com deal
+ fast connection
+ a lot of bandwidth
+ cheap :)
+ support

- this is RAQ3 - I have no idea how to manage this server
- not so easy to transfer my current customers to RAQ3
- I read Cobalt "knowledgebase" and people are have a lot of problems with Cobalt (especialy with email)
- poor Control Panel for end-users
- no-automatic signup

2. Colocate my server somewhere (ie. tera-byte.com $199/mo.)
- not so cheap as RAQ3
- i live outside (US and Canada) so I can only mail the server to them

+ I can use my Hsphere Control Panel (i know this program very good)
+ automatic signup
+ friendly end-user Control Panel
+ easier to transfer my current customers to new server with the same OS and CP

The most important thing for me is money :)
I don't want to spend more than $200/month

Do You know any colocation offer with 100GB bandwidth or shared colocation under $150/month ?

I have friends in Chicago and they can buy DSL and I'll be able to colocate my computer there... Is it a good idea ?

Please help me

Colocating your server on your friends DSL line would only be recommended if you didn't require serious uptime. Not to say that a dsl line is unreliable, just much more unreliable than colocating at a reputable datacenter. At a datacenter you also get UPS, diesel generators, 24/7 monitoring, mulitple connections to different providers, and temperature controled facilities. There is most likely a transfer limit with dsl and then you pay $10+ per gb after. You might want to check this out first.

I would recommend colocating your current server, since you know it well and are satisfied with it. Check out Daniel at UltraspeedUSA. He should be able to meet your needs.

I agree but be a bit loose on this. Hopefully you are willing to come down on the amount of transfer a bit (since your customers are using about 5 gigs/mo currently).

(You've already found out what bad service is like, be willing to pay for better service if you are going to make a move) :)
