Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has used this new OS. Were running Athlon64 Processors at the moment. This OS would be for serving games. Were thinking about moving to it, but dont know if its stable/offers any performance gain.

Can anyone give a short review if you have used it?

Hello,

We've seen a gaming desktop that our neighbor has running XP64, and by his words he says their is a huge noticable speed gains with the 64bit version when it comes to playing games. No problems reported so far.

I am actually considerin building my own gaming desktop using XP64.

However I would not recommend XP64 for general desktop usage such as word processing and other general programs.

I'm running XP64, other than the difficulty of finding beta drivers for software and hardware, I see a large difference in gaming and intensive processing, for example video encoding.

I have no idea if XP64 is better for server usage though.

You won't find that great of an improvement from 64 bit processors without 64 bit software. Otherwise the software is a bottleneck.

I found the biggest problem was driver support. My mobo drivers were all beta, and some softwae I wanted wasn't available - eg. firewall and system tools.

If you can wait a little while for it to become more mainstream, or can get a working system, then go with it - it won't be any worse than 32bit. It does come with latest microsoft drivers, including Sata though, so no mucking about with F6 and driver disks at install.

Most online games have a Linux server version too, and 64bit Linux is more mature, should offer less probs.
