Okay, I've had it with Aletia.

Here's the plans I currently have:
http://aletiahosting.com/hosting/

Any suggestions on anything comparable in price, but superior in support & performance ?

I'm also looking to escape Aletia's horrid state of affairs as soon as possible. I'm on their $10/month plan. So far I've been bookmarking sites with comparable plans (at least 200 megs storage and 10 gigs transfer at least to start) and so far I'm looking at:

tera-byte.com (haven't checked for reviews, no support forum that I could find)
sonichost.net (same as above)
utopiahosting.com (forum is basically empty, so nothing to go on)
hostcolor.com (no forum that I could find)

Very frustrating.

I really can't trust any site that hasn't been around a while and doesn't have a publicly accessible forum. I really hate this searching.

I'd pay up to 15 a month if I could get the same or better than Aletia with a long track record of good support. Basically a company that knows when it's time to pull the plug on new signups or buy new servers.

well, since myacen's recent incr. in prices, i've been looking for a new host.

hostcolor - ya ok, they don't have forum, but i've been recently sending them questions, and i get responses within a day.

as for aletia - i've been reading negative stuff about them in a few threads around here.

Why dont you try out cyberpixels.com? I have 2 domains hosted there and am planning on moving in a third. here's something similar to what you want:

250 MB Storage
6 GB Transfer
100 SubDomains
100 FTP Accounts
200 POP3 E-Mails
$9.95 / Mo.

-update-

certihost offers 250mb, 6gb bw for $2.99/m.

looks too good to be true.

but they do allow adult material, which is bad, coz that'l mean their servers would be too busy handling massive requests from these adult sites.

I've seen lots of people leaving Aletia saying that they're only looking for hosts also offering 200 megs of disk space and 10GB of bandwidth for $9.95. Just a theory, but maybe this is why Aletia turned bad: overloaded servers, due to including too much bandwidth with their plans for such a low price. At least it didn't help.

Basically, when you're giving away 10 gigs for $9.95, you're going to have to put quite a few sites on each server to turn a profit. This is fine if you include less bandwidth, but with 10 gigs, this tends to overload the server. I'm not saying it can't be done. But again, it obviously doesn't help server uptime.

Could you live with less bandwidth? How much are you using now?

I have a question about the lost comment ... too much bandwidth for too little bucks.

We are well below our monthly bandwidth ... I suspect others might be as well. So here's my question. If we're all below the max ... then why is Aletia going down ?

I suggest it's too many accounts on machines and routers that need upscaling.

Well, it's probably a bit of both. Although you and most of their customers may not use all of the available bandwidth, some will use it. And a server can only handle so many gigabytes before it starts crashing.

What I was suggesting is that it isn't helping.
