View Full Version : Is site5.com slow?

I have recently switched from Aletia to site5 due to Aletia's pathetic customer service and lack of stability. The problem is that my site has been significantly slower on site5. Check for yourself, maybe you will agree that it is too slow: http://www.highboard.com

Does aletia have a reputation for somewhat slow servers? If I end up leaving site5, who is known to have fast servers?

yes it barely even shows up.

Has it been 48 hours since your transfered for the DNS issues ?

If it has you better contact their support ...

It works fine for me. Try disabling your images on your browser or anything else that's trying to load images, etc. that you are calling from other sites -- like your counter, for example. (This is why I surf with images and Java (and JavaScript) disabled).

Works fine for me too. In fact it showed up in my browser very quickly. I'm on a cable modem.

Are you guys pressing enter and going into the main site? That is were I am experiencing some slowness, and I am on a cable as well.

Tim, I am going to remove the hidden layer that references that statistics site and see if that helps, thanks for the suggestion.

I can't load it...and I have a cable modem....I sense a server problem...if it was DNS, it wouldn't even be found

Man, I removed the link to my counter and its loading slower than ever. About 12 seconds to load the main page (after hitting enter)..

I was getting 1-2 second loads at Aletia....

Yes. I did click "enter" and a 2nd window opened up with the site content. I am also able to access all sections of the site quickly.

I have noted some intermittent router issues within the NAC datacenter over the last 48 hours. They have been minor, but have at times caused the symptoms you are describing.

It comes right up for me. I would say that you are coming in on one of the slower lines into nac.net. It is possible that one of the higher speed lines that would be optimal for you is down or having problems, and you have picked up on one of the other less optimal lines.

Like I said, I am on a cable modem and every thing pops right up for me.

Your site and Site5.com load slowly for me. However, I have visited Site5.com in the past and don't remember it being slow, and I also don't remember any previous posts about Site5 being slow (if it was this slow all the time you know a bunch of people would have complained about it already), so this has got to be some kind of short-term problem. Definitely not a DNS issue though.

Have you tried contacting Site5 to see what they say?

Well, I'm actually connected at 26.4 right now (truly), and it didn't load any slower than any other site that size does -- and I notice every delay and every bump in the road going this slow. It's at least not the server.

It loaded super fast for me on my cable connection. Looks great, too!

Thanks Nex :)

I did contact site5 tonight and I will see what they say. I think having a page take 4 or 5 seconds is unreasonable, would you guys agree?

Btw, I am only questioning the speed of the "main" site. I think some of you who are not getting the splash page to load, the reason is that I have a semi-experimental splash page there now which consists of some 220 tiny rollover images. (I am currently working on a better page and this is just kind of a place holder)... I've noticed that occasionally the page will show up without any of the images loading (due to the high number of images being transfered i assume?) and if you hit reload you will see the proper splash page.

Btw, to understand the point to the splash roll over the text...

Your web site, as well as Site5, load at full speed for me. I also happened to do a netmechanic test on our own site yesterday, and it came back as "Good" (we use the same data center).

As has just been mentioned, maybe you're coming in through one of the slower lines at nac.net? At any rate, contact your host (site5) and see if they can get it fixed for you.

Your site has a good speed for me. When I click enter the page loads very quickly.

Maybe it was just a temporary problem.

Could you guys clarify what you mean by lines at NAC.net? I assume that these are routing lines used by site5.com or something?

morphinelips,

Site5's servers are located in the Net Access Corporation's(nac.net) data center. The last figure I heard was the NAC had over 50 network providers coming into their center. This allows for redundency if one line should go down or have problems. It is supposed to route you through the most efficient carrier to get to your site, but if that carrier is having problems, you will fall back to another.

Other groups here on WHT have there servers loacted at NAC, including Pegasus who we co-locate with. Someone mentioned a router problem, and this was reported to us earlier in the week, but everything seems to be fine at this point.
