I've been looking for a shopping cart with SSL host. Searching the threads here at WHT I came across this post. (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25251&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) After reading through it I thought maybe I would give these guys a shot. It sounded like they were getting their act together, and the plan I was looking at was only around 10 bucks. So I tried to sign up with them. After posting my experience on the aforesaid thread I was private messaged by lonesail asking me to quit posting to that thread. So I am happy to oblige him... I'll post a new thread here!

Here is what happened when I attempted to sign up with neureal.com/hostiva.com: After entering my credit card info, the hostiva sign up system failed. I emailed support to ask them what was up, and to express my concerns with a bad start right off the get go...check out their response:

It is completely up to you if you want to host with us. However, the problem you experienced is a known one. It is due to a problem with how Mac version of IE handles java script. You account has not been created and credit card has not been charged.

If you wish to signup please use Netscape or Windows-based computer.

Thank you

So let me get this straight... I have to use a particular browser or OS to sign up with neureal.com? Macs may only be in the 5% of OS's used... but do you really want to neglect hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Mac users? Am I being over critical here? Maybe this isn't such a big deal? I tend to judge a company by me personal experience with them, so if I have a problem with them, I figure my clients could have a problem with my service if I use the same company. Make sense?

Anyway, lonesail responded back by saying:

"Those who were serious about signing up were accomodating in using Netscape for the signup application. Control Panel works fine on any browser running on Mac."

Im I taking this the wrong way, or is he implying that I wasn't serious about signing up with him? Like I am trying to make him look bad or something? Like I like giving my credit card out nonchalantly?

You guys tell me... should I take a strees tab? Or am I right in sharing this here with you?

Hello,

I think that you should consider other options to host your sites. According to what you have related, I personally would not consider them. Support and service is paramount to me.
Just my two cents.

My 2 cents:

I would give them a shot. I know nothing about this company other than what is stated in this thread (you have my disclaimer).

My understanding from this as that this is not necessarily a Hostiva problem, but more a problem with the MS-Genius that wrote the IE code for Mac. IE for Mac has never been my favorite (nor is it my favorite on Win).

A lot of people use JavaScript in their web pages, and sometimes it is somewhat like flipping a coin as to whether or not it works in all versions of every browser for every platform.

You could also (maybe) email your signup info via email (except for CC# which I would send via telephone; IMHO, tel is safer than email)

If all fails, move your site. I've done that a couple timesx, and although not the best way to spend a weekend, it is worth it if you get a good host.
