i am currently with a host that i am very unsatisfied with. Simply said, their service is nothing like they advertise.
My question is, how can i make a formal complaint against them... i dont wish to file a lawsuit, because thier not worth my money. I dont want to name them publicly, simply because i dont think its right; but i do wish to make a complaint that will count. Their not with the BBB (surprise?)... any other suggestions?

Even if they are not with the BBB you can still make a complaint with the BBB.
If you dont want to sue or go publicly the only thing left is contact the chamber of commerce for the area the provider is in but odds are they wont do anything.

Depends on the country but odds are there is not a place to complain too.

This issue really gets me!
There are hundreds of perfectly honest web hosting customers out there that are getting taken every day on the web. No one knows to go the BBB. And there really isn't a system in place to warn users about potentially dangerous companies before they deal with them.
I'm contimplating creating a blacklist web site for web hosting companies so that honest users know who they are dealing with.
The site I'm thinking of would be built like a search engine, with a long list that you could search through.
Anybody with me?

Well, you can complain all you want, and companies will keep bull****ting you. Companies don't care for their clients, they just want the cash.

How would you verify the authenticity of complaints? Perhaps the person complaining is another host looking to make a competitor look bad? Perhaps there is nothing wrong with the service provided by the host, but the user does not know what they are talking about. It could also be that some one is posting misinformation because they are a jerk -- these types of sites tend to attract those posts.
If you are really interested, there is already a site like that:

What if you had the system send an e-mail to the web host in question that would give them a chance to tell their side of the story? In the end admin would have to approve things that actually get listed. It was just a thought.
