Multiplying by 1.4 gives you a good estimate. :)

I make (Wait for it!)................: Zilch
Yep, a big fat zero £'s.
My advertising never went well, and neither did the site design...
O well, I'll shut down for a few months and rebuild the site offline, save some cash, and then come back with a vengence!

The key to getting customers is definately getting those meta tags done, putting alink to your site in your signature on as many forums as possible, and submitting to as many search engines as possible.
This might not seem like a good way to do things, but if you don't do that, then you won't go anywhere.
I didn't bother with meta tags before March, and barely had visitors. Then I realised that when search engines spidered my site, they wouldn't categorise my site without reading those meta tags.
I made some tags, submitted my site again to the search engines, and put a link in my signature. Within 1 month I got over 800 hits.
I guess that speaks for itself.
You must also design a good site - a site that will convince people that they need to be with you instead of the other host - if you can convince then of that, then your in business.

I have a very specific market that are my customers. I currently host around 40 domains and I make about $120 USD a month profit.

Right now it's at several hundred dollars a month... but I'm taking over my competition's business since their going out of business. He's just giving me all their hosting clients. That should double what I'm making.
Of course, I'm a web designer. I only host for my clients and don't really pursue it with advertising. If I did, I might have more.
