After researching things via this forum and others I see that the consensus of most people is that it is better to register a domain name with someone other than the host you plan to use. This, in addition to the fact that my soon-to-be host (hostculture) doesn't look like they even have domain registration as an option, led me to research other ways to register. I selected dotster and am in the process of filling out the forms now. I reached the part where it asked for contact info and I put my information on all contacts: owner, admin, account owner, billing, technical. After submitting this, however, dotster's registration process put up a warning that this contact information can't be changed in the future unless I file a change order and pay a $25 fee. I stopped there for now.
On my other domains, I notice that my host is usually listed as the technical contact. So my question is, once I transfer this domain to a host, will I have to pay $25 to update their info on the contact, or will it not matter if I leave myself listed?
Sorry if this is a stupid question. I tried searching the forum to see if it had been asked before.

Why don't you change to a registrar who does not charge you to change your domain information in the future...

You can always leave the technical contact as you, most people who register their own domains keep themselves as all the contacts anyway.

Make sure there are no other hidden charges with your registrar of choice.
