View Full Version : Problem with raq3 serving zip files for download ?
eva2000 12-29-2000, 12:25 AM I am having problems trying to serve my site's screensaver zip files on my site
i.e. http://216.236.191.170/screensaver_files/eva01.zip
I know i uploaded the file and it's there, but when i click it, it lags and then does a page unable to display message ?
why is my raq3 not able to serve it ? it loads the html and cgi stuff on that site okay... just not my screen savers :(
syanet 12-29-2000, 12:26 AM Don't know why. I know for a fact I had multiple .zip files on mine and they worked fine.
eva2000 12-29-2000, 12:31 AM strange now i can't access http://216.236.191.170/ as well ? could it be my lack of ram ? i have 32mb and a swap file utilisation of 10% although http://www.fananime.com/artwork/ works fine ?
i have that ip registered to a fake domain name - since i only need it's ip address right now. Could that be the problem ?
syanet 12-29-2000, 12:49 AM I'd say not being able to access the IP is your problem. Is http://www.fananime.com/ on the same IP address? As for the RAM, that shouldn't be your problem. Since you don't have much on the server yet and are only trying to access on .zip file there's no reason 32MB couldn't handle it.
eva2000 12-29-2000, 12:51 AM nope, fananime.com is on http://216.236.191.181
where as this problem is on http://216.236.191.170
eva2000 12-29-2000, 12:53 AM strange i can not access fananime.com via ip either http://216.236.191.181
hmmm.. now i can though ?
(SH)Saeed 12-29-2000, 01:01 AM Eva,
Is fananime.com a vhost on 216.236.191.181? How many domains do you have on that IP? To me it seems like you have set your site settings or DNS wrong. Maybe you should double check that!?

eva2000 12-29-2000, 01:11 AM fananime.com and fananime.net point to 216.236.191.181 and the domains work
for the ip with my zip file serving problem i only have 1 fake domain pointing to 216.236.191.170
i reuploaded the file at http://216.236.191.170/screensaver_files/eva01.zip and still doesn't work.
eva2000 12-29-2000, 01:15 AM okay i uploaded my zip file on a working domain on my raq3 and it works http://www.fananime.com/eva01.zip
so it must be my fake domain pointing to 216.234.191.170 that is causing this problem :(
any solutions ?
(SH)Saeed 12-29-2000, 01:47 AM Eva,
I can't load fananime.com, nor can I load fananime.net. I get a DNS Error message.
Here's a little instructions on how you should set things up (just so you can double check):
This is a quote from http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=3816
woobster.com has an IP of 216.234.160.225
www has an IP of 216.234.160.225
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 216.234.160.225
Keep in mind that www is an "A Record".
In your sites admin panel you should have:
IP Address: 216.234.160.225
Host Name: www
Domain Name: woobster.com
Just change woobster.com with domain (fananime.com) and 216.234.160.225 with your IP (216.236.191.181).
I don't even think you need to setup fananime.net on your sinte admin control panel (enough with DNS control panel). It will auto change to fananime.com

(SH)Saeed 12-29-2000, 01:50 AM I just tested again and they're both working now. fananime.net goes to fananime.com

eva2000 12-29-2000, 01:53 AM thanks that's what i have.. i just rebooted my server so that's why you couldn't access it.. some how after i installed webbalizer... some of the domains did not work until i rebooted the server... must of been busy creating my /stats/ directories on my domains/sites
i decided to resolve the ip to a real spare domain rather than a fake one
Chicken 12-29-2000, 01:10 PM woobster.com has an IP of 216.234.160.225
www has an IP of 216.234.160.225
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 216.234.160.225
Keep in mind that www is an "A Record"
This has nothing to do with the original question, but in case it helps anyone...
I *always* DNS domains one of two ways (if you are using a dedicated IP address for the domain, if not, then this doesn't apply). It saves you time later on, and just keeps things orderly (you don't have to worry abot how you set it up).
If you are SURE you aren't going to be running subdomains off the domain (of course it can be changed later), then I set it up this way:
woobster.com has an IP of 216.234.160.225
www has an IP of 216.234.160.225
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 216.234.160.225
This way if someone accidentally types in wwww.domain.com they still get you.
If I'll be running sub's off the domain, then:
woobster.com has an IP of 216.234.160.225
www has an IP of 216.234.160.225
Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to (*server IP address*)
If you put the server IP address there, then you can create subs on the fly based on the server IP (use this when setting up the sub on the server itself).
Like I said, of course this can all be changed, but wildcarding the domain to the server IP when you create the record will make your life easier in general. I like to set up subs as test accounts, etc.
eva2000 12-29-2000, 11:18 PM fixed my problem - i typed the wrong ip address *** hits self on the head with a big mallet *** :smash:

Heh, yeah that helps *sometimes*. That's the kinda thing that will drive you nuts though.
