My website http://www.staff.ie is pretty much being ignored by google.

If you do this search -

http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=jobs+ireland+irish+jobs&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryIE

- you will notice I am not listed AT ALL, even though my page title is very similar to this.

How can I get my site noticed by google?

Use one of their services like AdSense or Sitemap. Works for me.

Yeah, I use AdSense already, but it is very expensive for online recruitment.

Appearing in their search results would be much better for us (obviously).

i think most of googles services are a rip off

Google may take a few days to pick up your site once you submit it. It has a certain formula to organise the priority and order of sites it lists in a search, popularity is a major one, More sites that links to you the higher you'll be in the listing order. Otherwise, no idea.

I've opened a few websites in the past few weeks, and google hasn't picked them up either.

they take a damn long time to update their database. if you look at expedia.com, it's a few million backlinks but none from google.

their algorithm seems too complicated. but well, it's still the most popular engine out there.

It took a month for google to list me and I still can't serch for it with key words,only title. yahoo picked mine up first- I submitted it ,and I also used "submitexpress"-link to it at bottom of my links page. I also beleive the more sites that link to you the better. Thats one of the best things you could do-from what I've read in the 100's of help files I viewed. I'm a newbie at this so I need lots of help. www.daveseggsandart.com

You need good high quality backlinks.i hear like page with high PR and anchor text link will boost your popularity

Well, first you should do THIS (http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl) if you didn't do that yet.

Then, I would suggest you to add more words in the "Title" of the page and then in the meta-tags.

You should also try with Hello Engines (http://www.hello-engines.com), for example. This software is not free, but during the trial period, you can apply one web-site, but for you that is enough, isn't it? ;)

Google uses a much complex system to determine who is going to be at the top and so on as ranking upto 10 and more, which includes page loading time, content, quality and how many sites are backlinking to you might be so many factors.

It may be possibility that Google is having trouble figuring out your domain name like http://www, I think if so you may need to 301 redirect.

However you should get more suggestions from other members too.

does anyone know the "typical" time from when a new website is launched and linked to until when it can be found in google by a "site:url" search?

Like previously mentioned Google takes a while to update there listings, depending on where you are in the cycle, Ive seen take up to three months.

Clean coding helps, external links, and alot of text (html) will boost you rankings.
Adding keywords and metatags withing your site will increase search identity once your site is listed. You can always pay the man. This seems to be an onging issue.

There's really nothing mysterious here at all. Biggest problem: you're trying to rank for words that don't exist on the page except in the title. You might think that'd be enough, but with over 840,000 pages being returned for that query what reason (algorithmically) is there to rank yours higher than, say... 100,000?

Titles are important. Titles alone won't do it. Google likes content.

Also, the page you're trying to rank has a toolbar PageRank of only 2. The average page has between a 4 and a 5. Again, algorithmically, why should Google place that page prominently?

PageRank comes from the pages linking to you.

Additionally, among the links you do have are some that point to your domain name alone... which would be appropriate, but you're trying to rank a different page (jobseekers_search.php). Depending on how that redirect is done (I didn't take time to investigate that), you may be losing some of the PageRank benefit of those links.

1. If I add some keywords/text on my main page (jobseekers_search.php) but make them white (so they are "invisible") will google think that is bad? I really don't want to have to change the simple design/add more text.

2. I am using htaccess to redirect from http://www.staff.ie to http://www.staff.ie/jobseekers_search.php

My htaccess looks like this -

Redirect temp /index.html http://www.staff.ie/jobseekers_search.php

I think you should increase the PR and better the HTML and the cpc might improve thus improving it I guess thereafter google will pick up on it.

Everything Jay said plus..there's some design issues with that page. WAYYYYYYYYYY too many table definitions. If I were you, I'd use the about page info on the index page. But those keywords and descriptions must be changed if you ever wanna rank anywhere above page 999.999.

Give it a little while. It can take quite a while. If you have other sites that the googlebot travels over you should add the link there - that might speed it up. Otherwise pay them for adwords.

I had a similiar problem with one of my sites just not getting picked up, and got a module from clickcartpro and they began listing on google literally within a couple of weeks.

Gmail, is also pretty good with all the space and stuff :D

Google is what makes a lot of websites popular. It could also depend on the information. My site has a Google PR5 but it also has tons of content to search, words that are often searched by people, etc, etc.

Google actually makes up about 30% of my visits a month. I would suggest a lot of things. Naming things with keywords, putting in very few keywords for it to search in your HTML, using URLs like: "sitename.com/news/hilaryclinton.html" rather than "sitename.com/artid?=2324.php"

Words in your URL means Google spiders will search it faster. Having a forums on your site helps also, especailly if you have forums you pay for. Popular forums are searched faster by Google for some reason, and Google will look at them better.

If you want the spiders come back with some new visitors, you should keep your site update with fresh contents like the forums, message boards, news articles and calendared events and few other things.

They can decline a duplicate or a near duplicate page, however it all depends upon different factors adopted by google. However a fresh content can be obtained even after changing the anchor text of links pointing to a page.

A new page on an old site may score higher than an equally new page that resides on a new site, normally they consider the average age of all pages on a site.

Once Google proves that its search engine can increase audience figures of videos without copyright violation, it can be considered great.
