They have been around since late 90's IIRC. The point of being a loss leader is to loose money on a product and it can work out to be a very very good choice for a company. i-devs 07-07-2005, 12:01 AM Originally posted by justadollarhostin The point of being a loss leader is to loose money on a product The point of a loss leader is to make money elsewhere. That is neither a positive or a negative, the issue comes in how and where the other money is made. If they offer great service, so that you have no desire to go elsewhere and your renewal fee is higher, then so be it. If your agreement locks you into something where you have to pay up a ridiculous amount or lose it, that is another matter. No idea what the case is here, just make sure you aren't going in blind. dollar 07-07-2005, 12:04 AM I thought that was implied in my post ;) From fortunecity's website: Hosting 1,980,417 sites since 1997! and I highly doubt they are lying. They have many areas to make money by offering domain hosting at a loss, the most important are most likely hosting and their design cervices. This really doesn't seem very different than Yahoo's special not too long ago for $4.xx domains. aeserver 07-07-2005, 02:45 PM Brinkster offers domains for $1, the renew is 8.95. Remember no registrar never loses when he registers domains, there will be a hidden fee somewere. dollar 07-07-2005, 02:47 PM Originally posted by aeserver Brinkster offers domains for $1, the renew is 8.95. Where do you see $1 domains? aeserver 07-07-2005, 04:10 PM With linux promo pack dollar 07-07-2005, 04:11 PM Ah alright ;) I would snatch up quite a few domains for $1 registration, even with $8.95 renewal. aeserver 07-07-2005, 09:04 PM Dont do that. I just got my domain & canceled my order (hosting) After the 6 month, you HAVE to purchase a plan with them or they will keep the domain for the whole year with them & will not allow you to change the nameservers. Now can anyone help me, if a domain is registered, can I transfer it to other rigstrar without the actualy company knowing about it. I got a very good .net today & dont what to loose it with brinkster |
