View Full Version : 123ehost and prevo.net
Hi,
I've been trying to find a good deal for hosting some personal websites and I came across 123ehost.com and prevo.net being mentioned on some other forum.
Has anyone here had any experience with either of them? Would be grateful for some tips... :)
Thanks in advance!
ryu
Prevo.net support is fast.
oh yay, i got an answer. thanks Donovan! :)
i was interested in 123ehost because they have quite a sweet promo deal going on (the usual "you have until dec31st to jump in with both feet!" thing) for the holidays, and it works out to about $5+/mth for a year after you even out the setup fees etc.
123ehost responded to my info request email pretty quickly - i sent it in the middle of the night and they replied about 6.30 in the morning, which was nice :)
i'm thinking of trying them out. what the hell, it's only a year right, even if turns out sour? but i've only done monthlies so far and have never tried doing a whole year upfront before. Plus i'm worried about hassles with transferring my site elsewhere later or credit card charge problems, etc, if they turn out to be not-so-great.
That's the problem with reading these forums too much. You end up with so many possible disaster stories in your head! (gee thanks for sharing, all you guys...!) LOL :)
no one seems to know much about 123ehosts though. oh well. if i try it out i'll be sure to post a report here for anyone else who might be interested :)

Sometimes, people worry too much.... and, besides once you've had the worst service, it can only get better......
LOL! that's me, a born worrier! i should try to switch around to your optimistic viewpoint, JTY :)
Anyway to round off the story I decided not to go with 123ehost in the end. I discussed it with a friend who is just as paranoid about net security and privacy as i am, and he pointed out that there is no/insufficient documentation on their site about their security and privacy policies. Also when you sign up online for their plans, the initial pages where you put in your name and address and all those personal details is NOT under SSL. Only the very last page where you fill in your credit card number is under SSL.
So, much as my cheapo side is sad about missing out on their great-sounding deal, I've reluctantly decided to give it a miss... It's not worth the potential possible hot water I could be in :) plus i haven't had any trouble yet so far with anything on the net, and i reaaaaallly don't want to start :)
i guess i'll stick with my current hosts, below10host, even though their package prices have gone up a little...
ryu, being a cowardly lion =)
ljprevo 01-02-2001, 03:16 AM Hey Ryu,
Contact me off the board and I can address any
concern you have.
I am the owner of 123ehost.com, I would like to clear things... Your credit card number is safe with us, we use clickbank and it's 100% secure. Your name and address before you signup is NOT under SSL, because there is no sensitive information such as a credit card number.
If you're concerned about this, we can provide you a secure page.
Do you think a hacker is gonna go to the form page at http://123ehost.com/signupform.htm and copy your name and address? Even if they did, why would a hacker trouble himself by doing that for useless information.
Please someone advise?
We've never had security problem, or any other complaints about credit card frauds.
Thank you

SK, the only thing I can say is that apparently it is a concern for some people and it might not hurt to throw the whole thing under a secure page. Obviously, you read the post, and that's really a judgement call on your part, but that would be my only recommendation. :)
Thanks Chicken, I will probably change it into a secure form, when I or my employees gets the chance. I guess ryu is right. There are companies out there selling your information.
Thanks for your concern
Later...
Hi, sorry for the incredibly late reply, I was away from the board for a longish time and missed seeing these posts until now.
I appreciate your taking the time to address my worries, SK and ljprevo :) Yes, there are so many scary stories nowadays and I can't help being paranoid. Usually the paranoid half wins out over the miserly half *grin*
I stayed with my old-current hosts in the end (at the time i didn't see your replies) but i will make some return visits to your sites in future. Still have lots more domain names to find homes for! :)
ryu
Wow... A shock for me to see a reply to this old thread. :p
By the way, who is your old host, Ryu?
If your happy with your hosting company, you should stick with him, unless your an experimental guy.
Donovan : hehhe yeah, i popped by the board after a long absence and remembered this old question, had to do a search on myself to find it. i was surprised it was actually still in existence, i thought it would have fallen off the backend by now! :) i didn't expect to get any more replies to the question, so it was a pleasant surprise to actually get personal responses from the people themselves!
my old (current) hosts are below10host. i've actually made other posts here recommending them, which leads me to the other response ...
SK : i am happy with them and i have posted recommending them often. i have also recommended them to my friends and coworkers. i wouldn't say i'm experimental, but i do want to grow a lot of different websites and i am not rich, so i'm always looking for a good (or better) deal :) just the past day or two i was unable to view some of my sites on my current host, and there seemed to be a bit of a slowdown on the access. more than a bit, actually. today it was fine again. i don't check all that often so i don't know if that is a recurring problem - i haven't gotten around to asking the support staff yet (who have always been very helpful), haven't had time, but i am going to check. if it's slowing down because the servers are getting bogged down, then i may indeed need to look elsewhere. if it's a temporary glitch then it's no biggie.
oh yes.. and i'm female, not a guy *grin* =) maybe i should add that to my sig, i know this nickname is kind of nonspecific :)
thanks for all your replies!
oh okay i just saw that other thread about problems with the Alabanza network. that is probably what was the problem with viewing my missing sites. looks like it's ok now so never mind what i said about the downtime... heh =)
er... hey, SK? what happened to your site? i just went to look at the plans again and your site is gone, there's only a bare directory listing there. erm?
