This is the pm spam I received

quote <Hi
Hi,
I have noticed that you have recently been suspecting that I be Chris Gentile.
Well I will tell you now that I have found out what kind of person he is and his tactics. I am not going to start denouncing anyone but I'll just say that his practices are not of my own. I notice that you will soon be doing reseller accounts. Which control panel do you plan on using? We use HSphere and its great with the exception for how complex it is.
I look forward to talking to you,
Steve

I Have never communicated with this person, have never indicated that I will be doing reseller accounts to this person, and have never solicited a pm from him. Furthermore, it would be absurd in every respect for him to have even the foggiest hope I would use his service. I no more believe this spam than any other denial of being Chris Gentile. In addition, I am not a candidate for his or anyone's hosting services.

Swifty Host, Chris Gentile, Steve, or any other name of the day you choose.....the unscrupulous tactics do not change.

This is an unsolicited PM, not spam. Spam is a bulk, unsolicited message that is usually of a commercial nature. While this was unsolicited, it is not bulk, and only touches on commercial material towards the end. Personally, I wouldn't consider it spam at all.

In fact to me it sounds like he's just trying to clear up some suspicians that you had about him, and then trying to be friendly by asking you about control panels? If you haven't been in touch with him before, is it possible he sent it to the wrong person? Has anyone else got this PM? I'll admit to not knowing about who Chris Gentile is. It seems like you're being a little hasty, but if there's something I'm missing here, just call me ignorant.

Another point is that it's considered bad netiquette to post a private message such as this publicly, without consent from the sender. Even if you think it's spam, I think that sort of etiquette deserves some respect. Presumably, he meant it to be private and addressed to you, not for the world to read. Did you try to contact him to express your concern with what he'd done before posting publicly?

Honestly, I think people are getting a little hysterical about spam. Yes, it's annoying, but unsolicited mail and spam are such greatly different things.

I think he may have heard you are going to be doing reseller accounts by reading your signature.

It sounds to me like a friendly PM, If you dont want him to PM you again just reply and tell him not to PM you.

So how do email/pm conversations start, these days? One guy has to get permission (somehow, he can't use email/pm) from the other guy in order to start an email conversation?

It doesn't look like Steve was trying to sell you anything. I think he just wanted to talk about reselling and the control panel you use. Get some ideas from you, talk about it, who knows. It also looks like he was just letting you know what was going on between Chris and him, probably due to the long thread about Swifty Host and Chris that you might or might not have participated in.

I wouldn't be happy if I was trying to start up an email conversation with someone and they reported me to the Spam Police and the lynch mob.

I just checked my PM and got one back from him. I was just trying to clear things up I had no commercial gain whatsoever it was a personal message. Your attacks at me were uncalled for.

"Take your pm spam elsewhere."
"if you came to me to lease 100 servers from me...I would turn your business away. "
"Do not respond to this or ever pm or email me again. "

Couldn't agree more. There seems to be a cottage industry growing up now of hammering people who send introduction e-mails, to one address, personally addressed. It's gotten bizarre

Sounds like it's time to up the dosage, and relax a little.

Maybe I did overreact. However, I reacted to the history of "swifty host" probably more than the PM itself. But, I take 12 lashes from all for my reaction.

If that was an apology then I accept it...
Also what history is it you speak of? The only history I know of is our 10 days we've been in business.

He probably confused you with someone else with a similar name. There are so many companies out there, confusion is inevitable from time to time.

That said, err... am I the only person who misread "Swifty Host" as "Shifty Host"?

And not judging on the 10 days...just previous posting and activity. Enough said. Anyone who cares to search can do so. I will bow out of this conversation as I am not a potential customer of Swifty, Steve, Chris or any of the others associated.

Hey Swifty you may remember me. In february when everyone was saying how you are Chris that you told me you would give me a month service for free so that could prove you are not Chris and your service is much better than Chris. Well its been a few months now and still nothing. The many times I have emailed you I have gotten a reply only once saying it will eb setup tonight and that was a month ago. I have all emails even the first sonversation between us also. So what ever happened to that ?

And his site is still active. However, for a little humor visit the forum on his site....he must not be too active as the posts are very negative and haven't been answered or removed.

As this seems to have been resolved, I'm closing it. Please allow members to communicate with you, send you offers, even say hi without jumping off the deep end. If you feel you've been contacted in a way you don't approve of, please forward the PM to myself (or any other mod), or forward the email to us and we'll have a look and try to resolve the issue off board. Danke.
