I am looking to start a reseller account.

I have been using shared hosting for a few clients, but its time to start offering my own service.. and cut down on paperwork! ;)

I was initially going to join Sonataweb, however I have waited 3 days for an answer to basic questions whilst I have watched presales questions posted after mine get answered. :angry:

Seems silly to me, that if they're product is worth taking pride in, this is done to a potential client.... But anything is possible, so they aren't out of the equation just yet, as I have heard great things about them... I was just a little off-put by this given that I needed information fairly quickly.

So being a relative novice to this, timely support is important.

Basically I will be hosting around 15 sites initially, most low/medium volume. Is it a standard for resellers to offer unlimited domains?

A package I was impressed with was one offering 75GB bandwith and 3GB space, unlimited domains, for $18US per month.

So i'm on the lookout for plans with about half of those paper features (and a cost near equivalent ;)). Even plans around those specs are absolutely fine.

If anyone can suggest some reputable hosts with tight knit support communities it would be much appreciated!

Well, i've come across resellerzoom, and surpasshosting. Their lower level plans seem great.

Anyone got comments on those companies, or general suggestions?

I am also still looking positively towards Sonataweb... but checking other options.

Sonataweb seem to be a pretty solid host, I would certainly give them a chance to come round and im sure they will. Seem to have alot of happy clients. Otherwise there is alot of choices open to you i cant reccomend one provdior but have a look at the offers section.

Thanks, i'm actually yet to read of a bad word against them myself. I hope you're right, because others haven't impressed nearly as much.

I think your right on target for a good priced entry level reseller plan for around 20.00. Both the companies that you mention seem to have a good reputation around here but I can't speak for them personally because I never used them when i was a reseller. Good luck :)

SonataWeb tends to get pretty good reviews around here. Therefore, they have just overlooked your pre-sales question. If you posted this in the forums, there will be an obvious delay as e-mail would be the primary way of contact. I suggest you just send them an e-mail.

I just checked out resellerzoom, their plans and reputation here look positive :).

Good points by everyone. Don't always assume a host monitors WHT for messages relating to their operations ;)

It's always best to follow contact details from their websites.

I've come to the following three providers;

Varhost

Resellerzoom

Surpass Hosting

Varhost has an attractive base level Powerseller plan, which looks like it may be the go, and Resellerzoom also has good base plans; however their personal nameservers are an extra $3 a month, even on their mid range plan.

I get personal nameservers with Varhost, which is something that Surpass doesnt offer for their base $10/month plan, instead offering an extra gig of space.

My concerns are server load, support, and uptime, so if people could give me more opinions on these two providers it would be great!

I have read some things of concern regarding all three providers, but as nothings perfect, im fishing for opinins.

I think it is private name servers that are extra on ResellerZoom. It was pointed out in another thread that there is a difference between personal and private name servers. You still get your own ns but not dedicated IPs.

You should check with ResellerZoom which one they are referrring to. let us know the result if you do.

Host Dime, they offer great support

We have been using hostingzoom for quite long time, and they are the best, we have ever seen. Stable, fast and good support.
We highly recommend them. Combine this with AWBS and you will
have great combo....

I found that with resellerzoom, that we don't actually get our own name servers ($3 extra a month). So in that respect Varhost lead the pack (despite less of an attractive shopfront), and i'm pretty impressed with the way it looks to be run, roj seems like a decent and dedicated bloke.

Any opinions of varhost or surpass would be great. I've done the searches and come up with some good stuff, but it's hard to make a decision on just that, given that negative feedback is generally more vocal than praise (usually with good reason)..

Just to double check. Doesn't ResellerZoom allow you to have ns1/ns2.yourdomain.com without paying extra? Isn't the extra for your 2 own IPs?

I thought so, but I found that they differentiated between private nameservers and dedicated IPs, which tells me that you can't have you own nameserver without the extra cost... but I too would like to hear from Resellerzoom.

well i was with surpass and they were good in the beginning, but later on their service level went down. but their prices are just too good. if u want to save money, go with surpass. they have good reviews.
u also have another option. idologic.com and kualo.com although their prices are high , their service is just class.

In the end I was less than impressed with Sonatawebs excuse for the lack of attention to the pre-sales board, which makes me think twice about their product.

I saw too many unprofessional and smart-arse toned responses in VarHosts support boards, and Surpass have also been guilty of this as well as bad press in any other given area.

ResellerZoom have been given consistently glowing reviews in all aspects, and have a neat shopfront and good support, so i've chosen to go with them.

OLI-G , I just got anew dedicated server with HostDime for $120 a month. 1200 G Up and Down, Dual 80 Gig Hard Drives with FREE Name Servers and Very Easy Migration. Seemed like a great deal to me , I shopped around and found there prices and support could not be matched. They are not really huge but spectacularly efficient. By far the best support I have ever seen.

I have been with surpasshosting for 2 years. Was good at first. Then started to go downhill about 1.5 years ago. Now my sites are SUPER SLOW and go down EVERY OTHER DAY!

HostDime is closely connected with surpasshosting. Long time ago, I remember the support forum was shared between Hostdime and surpasshosting.

Consolation price: the customer service is first class. But what good is it if the hosting sucks?

FYI, you are only partially correct as regards kualo.com - it is right that their prices are high (no, make that 'very high'), but their services are far from "class" - there are lots of problems with Kualo and I recently switched away from them.
