I have been searching for at least 2 weeks for a new hosting company for my 6 websites. My problem is that most of my sites I developed in ASP w/ an Access DB but now I am developing a site with PHP and MySQL. So I need a host company that has both Win2k and Unix/Linux. TopHosts.com and HostIndex.com have helped me narrow it down to a few:
Hostway (a bit too $$),
SiteTurn (NO WAY, turns out they suck big time)
DataPipe.com - ??? opinions ???
Pegasus (pwebtech.com) - ??? opinions ???
hostik.com - not too crazy about their website, but haven't heard anything bad... ?? opinions ??

I am completely open to other suggestions too. Seems like Aletia and Site5 are popular favorites, but they don't do Windows...HELP!!!!

Unless and until Aletia gets its act together, I would avoid them. Go to their forums, here (http://aletiaforums.com/) and look in the general support forum, if you want to understand what I mean. Our server, and consequently our site, has been slow or down frequently for the past several days (some say months). Stats are not updated. I think the support staff tries, but the servers are just plain overloaded, consequently the support staff, what there is of them, can't begin to wade through the tickets.

That's the reason I'm here at webhostingtalk.com right now.

I wish this wasn't the case, I really do. They have an excellent forum, and good features.:bawling:

Have you considered using 2 different hosts -- one for your Unix hosting, and another for Windows hosting? The reason I'm suggesting this is that there are many hosts who specialize on Windows hosting and do it really well, and many hosts who specialize on Unix hosting and do that really well. By contrast, there are relatively few who excell at both.

Just a suggestion. Good luck finding a host. :)

I recommend nexpoint.net

We have used http://www.cosmotek.net/ CosmoTek.net for six months and in that time we have gained several new clients and lost them all.

I am personally very angry with CosmoTek for their persistent excuses and failure to notify their clients of important system changes. For example they changed their SMTP setting without notifying any of their clients and we only found this out because our clients emailed us stating that they were unable to send any mail. We were also led to believe that they designed their control panel when it is actually deigned and owned by ControlME. Even more embarrassment to us was when all of our clients tried to log into their accounts and got this notice:

Evalutation of ControlME has expired. Please visit http://www.digitalblueprint.net/products/controlme/ to purchase a valid license.

We have also tried Fasthosts Internet Ltd http://www.fasthosts.co.uk in the UK and I would also advise against this as the service is very poor and support staff are unable to resolve matters within a reasonable period of time and believe me you need support with this company.

Can somebody please recommend a reasonably priced Win200 host?
