if you went thru the advertising forums you will find this rule:

Members may not post to instruct users to check their e-mail, check their PM, or inform them that they've got mail or a new PM, or any variant thereof.

is broken in almost every thread 2-3 times.

so i was wondering, do you guys (mods) dont read those threads, or you just ignore such replies!

IMO, these kind of replies is very annoying, why would the member state on puplic that " you got PM" , unless he is advertising his services on the other member thread.

BTW, If its okay to break this rule then i advice you to change the name from Privet Messsage TO------> Puplic Messsage.
:emlaugh:

cheers.

We remove them when we see them, but I don't recall you using the "Report this post to a Community Liaison" link to report them ;)

I have both privately and publicly advocated a no postcount increase parameter for all advertising threads, which undoubtedly is the main reason people are not allowed to post these types of messages currently (they defeat the 10 post advertising rule), followed by a rule change allowing these posts to be made in advertising forums only.

I've said the same thing about the lounge too, but I've been cautioned to not pursue this part too aggressively, as I might get strung up by my thumbs for it :stickout:

Pretty sure the rule was initiated because most members find it annoying to be subscribed to a thread and get notification that someone posted, only to find out that someone posted to tell someone that they sent them a PM that they were expecting.

It would be more than your thumbs Paul ;)

I say, either you allow these kind of post (by removing this rule)

or you just give warning points to the member who make such reply ( i know it would be hard work for you cause there are many many posts which violate this rule)

BTW, why was the thread moved!
I made it on purpose on the lounge so that many members see it and maybe some of them decide not to make such useless posts again.

Ach, they should be happy WHT's set up an open marketplace for them to conduct business in the first place, with free monitoring for trolling and fraud to boot! A few emails here and there is a small price to pay, methinks.

Frankly, I think it's one of those things that can be removed from Forum Guidelines.

If you're subscribed to a thread, you should know that you're not going to be interested in every reply.

I think it is much more common to say, "You've got mail," than it is to have a rule forbidding such statements.

As far as removing post counts from the Ad forums . . . I'm all for that too.

It strikes me as odd that you have enough time to post a thread complaining about it, but won't take a few minutes to report them.

Can't have your cake and eat it too....

IMO there are already enough useless posts for the "Check your PM" posts to be virtually negligible. :)

I was asking the mods why they dont remove such posts,
and i got the reply that i was expecing...many mods belive that this rule is useless so the dont really care if ppl violate it.

so, do u think if I reported to a mod. would he take a positive action?

maybe once or twice but then he will ignore my reports just like they ignore the posts.

so I say Remove this rule.

Sorry, I don't generally give direct attention; but that is absurd.

There may be things I don't agree with. But, what I absolutely would not agree with is not witholding the guidelines that are in place.

If a report is made, it is acted upon.

If you don't feel like making a report; don't.

But, don't complain then because we didn't see whatever it was that may have bothered you.

Four years ago, I read every post.

That is impossible today.

We rely heavily on help from members.

If you don't want to help, that's your choice.

many mods belive that this rule is useless so the dont really care if ppl violate it.Just to clear things up: as long as the rule is there I fully enforce it, and I trust all moderators do the same.

SWR, dont take the issue personally, what i am saying is either you remove the rule, or just remove all the posts which viloates the rule!
or else why its a RULE while no one seems to respect it.
and to be honest, i fail to see how you say that its something "you didnt see"

well from a quick look on the forums only first page on the advertising section i found those:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=420176

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=420136

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=419972

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=419948

and there is more and more comming and going, you want me to belive that no moderator have seen any of the such posts which are made every day.

and BTW, four years ago you was a normal memeber, but now you are a mod. so u have to do some extra work. ;)

I remove the ones I see and the ones that are reported are removed. As Dennis said, it is impossible to read every post and I don't think there is one member on this forum who can read every new post every day. While you are reading your first hundred, another 2 hundred will be posted :D

What exactly were you trying to accomplish by starting this thread?
It is obviously an issue for you or you wouldn't have been compelled to start the thread and yet it's not enough of an issue for you to simply hit the report post link?

This thread comes off as more of a whining about the mods thread than anything else.
If you are not prepared to do your part and report rules violations then you have no right to question the way in which the mods perform their job.

look guys, u dont have to express how much do you love WHT mods over here as if i was attacking them

my point is clear from the start!

why does all the ppl violate this rule, and why does mods see such posts and dont make an action agnist them?

if all of you like the fact that there is a rule which no one respects then fine , live with it.

for me i like to respect the rules, so if the rule is there then we should respect it or remove it.

so, if any of you belive that no moderator see any of these posts which many of them is made every day, its his personal openion
but SORRY i cannt belive that
simple because there are many too many of them out there.

Simply put, you need to grow up.

You fail to realize that the mod's here are volunteers who donate their time. Sometimes they miss posts which violate the rules. That's where your whining comes in. If you see it, then report it... if not, sit back and shut up... you have no grounds to complain because you yourself are not doing anything to assist the mods in correcting the problems.

If you want to play monday morning quarterback, that is up to you... but your post makes you look like a real jerk.

AND

i wasnt complaining from the mods.

IN PREEF

either ppl respect the rule, or just remove it.

and about "its all my mistake" that i mentioned above, i ment that its my mistake that i didnt realise that some ppl only accept the "I LIKE" feed back.
that where are only allowed to say, i like this and i like that.

but if someone said "i dont like this"
thats not allowed, and you will get replies like :

-real jerk
-why are you whining
-whats your point
-shut up
-grow up
...etch.
