Hi,

I'm in need of a photo gallery with thumbnail generation from hi-res images (150-300dpi JPG). Ideally I'd like to be able to upload the hi-res image and be able to sort them by category or folder and then when a visitor views a category/folder have the web-res thumbnails automatically generated (maybe even with image details like res, width/height, but this is not required). A web control panel to upload would be nice but not required, as long as I can specify the folder I FTP the images to.. Also when you click the thumbnail I want the visitor to be able to download/save the hi-res JPG, or have a download hi-res link available.

Is there any free or commercial php, flash, cgi script out there that can do anything like this? Or am I dreaming and need to have someone make this?

Thanks!

4images sounds like it would do it for you.

I've used both 4Images and Coppermine Photo Gallery before, and IMO Coppermine is much better. You can install it within about 5 minutes (it's that easy). If you want, I can show you what my gallery looks like to have a better picture :)

I've got fantastico, which has both 4images and Coppermine... so at the recommendation of the first reply, I installed 4images very easily... I'm still checking it out, uploading some images..

Is it easy to customize the look to fit a site's color scheme?

If I get this all figured out, a client of mine will likely want to use it and purchase a license for it, and have it customized to look like their site. I'm not sure I'll have time to customize it though, so I may end up posting in the offers forum to see if someone can do it for me for a small fee.

Thanks!

I've never tried to customize its colors so I can't advise you on that, sorry.

I'm not sure I understood all of your requirements, but I think gallery may work for you. It can be found at www.gallery.menalto.com.

It automatically generates thumbnails. You can specify quality and size limits.

You can create nearly unlimited categories/ folders.

There is a control panel and a desktop application you can use to upload and manage images.

I belive you have the option to place a download link under the images. You could always add an html link and provide the right click instructions below each picture if not.

Tons more features. They have G2 beta in testing and looks promising. Take a look at some demo sites to see if it might meet your needs.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks, yeah I've used Gallery for other projects but not for dealing with hi-res image downloads with thumbnails. I'm not sure it offers hi-res downloads. I am testing out 4images and it seems to work good, the lightbox feature is cool. Now I just need to skin/style it.
